More About the Author

I was born, many moons ago, on the side of a hill in the Arkansas Ozarks, and grew up there and in Southern California. I've attended Los Angeles Baptist College and Western Michigan University.

I always wanted to write, and so, when my youngest child was in kindergarten, and after reading Billy B. Sharp and Claire Cox's book CHOOSE SUCCESS:How to Set and Achieve All Your Goals, I set out out to try my hand at writing. My first book, on the subject of equality for women in the church, was published by Zondervan Publishing House and has been in print for over 25 years. After that one, I wrote books that were related in some way to that subject, and then compiled and edited a cookbook, The Zondervan Family Cookbook.

Several more books are in the works, at various stages of completion.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is my kind of book, July 3, 2002

I've had this book for a few months now and been very pleased with all of the recipes I've tried. My 16 year old daughter is still a beginning cook and has had only successes whenever she's used this cookbook. That's the best endorsement I can think of!

My first love is community/church type cookbooks and this one fits right in. It's fun to find names of people I've heard of before attached to a recipe. Sometimes that's enough to encourage me to try the recipe.

Even my daughter gives this cookbook 2 thumbs up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Real Family Cooking, April 25, 2002
By
This review is from: The Zondervan Family Cookbook (Hardcover)
I received this cookbook a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed reading it, and picking out recipes to try. the recipes look easy, the ingredients i either have or are readily accessible, real life recipes, for real life people. i especially liked the side comments. it's as if a family member is standing in your kitchen reminiscing with you. the recipes are well laid out, easy to read, the line drawings are charming. my own personal prejudice:i prefer books like this to be spiral bound so they lie flat as i'm following a recipe. but since each recipe is complete on one page, it's easy enough to use a bookholder. somehow this is the type of cookbook that you know will be used often, passed on in the family and will probably be splattered with bits of ingredients. :-) i would have also enjoyed seeing pictures of the finished product, but these 2 comments are only minor faults if even that. it's a book to read, cook from, and share.

4.0 out of 5 stars *Family* cookbook is right!, April 6, 2002

I've got to tell you, I'm very pleased with my newest cookbook. This is a very comfortable cookbook to both read and cook with. Mine showed up shortly before Easter, and I let it loose on the leftover ham with wonderful results! The anecdotes make interesting reading but they don't get in the way of the recipes, and the recipes are well laid-out and easy to follow. It might not win any awards for gourmet cooking, but it is a success at feeding my family. I can't wait to dig into some of the international recipes!
