The Bible would be outstanding if the margins were wider. However, not only are the margins far too narrow to add any personal notes . . . but the center margin (by the binder) is so narrow that it can make it tedious to read at times! Sadly, I would NOT recommend this to anyone. A person would be far better off getting the standard print edition.

The ZONDERVAN description was misleading because it stated that it had "wide" margins . . . which is completely false. Only their standard print edition has wide margins! When I called the company, I was informed that they were planning to change the description on their web site. Too bad, they would have been far better off changing the packaging of what would have been the best Study Bible available anywhere!

The content is obviously great, after all, the bible does contain our Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. :-) Seriously though, the large print is good for somebody in their 40's or older as you don't have to get your glasses out to follow along during church service. Also, there is great information at the bottom of the pages, giving you in-depth explanations or additional information about what you're reading. As other reviewers have said, it is heavy. I keep mine in a zippered bible cover with a handle to carry it to church. When I travel, such as when on mission trips, I carry a more compact bible that isn't a study bible, but this one is my favorite to study from at home.

This was bought as a gift for someone. They seem to be very pleased with it. It has lots of footnotes and study references. It's also VERY large and heavy, so it's a good idea to have a Bible cover to carry it. Great study Bible.

I recently purchased a Bonded Leather Indexed 2008 Edition of the Large Print Zondervan NIV Study Bible. For the past 14 or 15 years I have owned a Hard Cover 10th Anniversary Edition (also in large print) with which I will compare the new edition.
First the positives - The Zondervan NIV Study Bible is filled with great study notes, charts maps etc. which make these Bibles a treasure to read & study. I appreciate this Bible being available in large print for my tired eyes. I also enjoy the easy to understand style of the NIV translation, although I would never be without an NASB version of the Bible, as I believe it is the most accurate translation.
Now for a couple of negatives. I would prefer genuine leather as the bonded leather seems a bit thin, especially at this price. The other negative is that the large print appears to be lighter and thinner than in my older version, so it is not quite as easy on the eyes as it could be. With those 2 nit picks aside, I still feel that the NIV Study Bible is a must have for the serious Bible Student, but I would also recommend keeping an NASB Bible close at hand as well. (The Ryrie NASB Study Bible is a superb choice) I would place this Study Bible in my top four or five, along with the out-of-print (and well worth looking for a copy) NKJV "Believer's Study Bible" (Thomas Nelson), The excellent NASB Ryrie Study Bible" (Moody Publishers), and The NKJV "Prophecy Study Bible" (Thomas Nelson). All-in-all, the Zondervan NIV Study Bible earns a solid Four Star Rating from me. Just keep in mind that this is a rather large and heavy Study Bible, not one that you would want to carry around at all times, but great for serious study.

This is a very good study Bible, but I wish it had the little marks on the edge to help me find the different books. It is large and heavy even for a paperback.

I bought this Bible for my mom, who is suffering some vision problems. She loves the large print and said that the leather binding is beautiful! It was the perfect gift because her old Bible was falling apart and she really needed a new one.

Not what I was hoping. The weight of it and the thin pages look to me like it won't be very durable at all. I was hoping for a sturdier binding. It was a gift but my brother's study group apparently does not like the NIV version. I should have done my research better before ordering.

The leather on this Bible is "European Leather" and smelled just like a new pair of boots. The back cover is marked "European Leather".

Binding: The binding does look sewn. It does not state that it uses the "Smyth" method, but I definitely saw threads when I was breaking it in.

The paper is not "French India" but it has a nice "slip" to it. The margins are not wide, but it suits my purposes as I do not want to write in it.

The gold on the edges of the pages is not sprayed on. It is gold foil gilt, so be careful when first breaking it in. As with all gold foil gilt the pages will stick together.

It is a good semi-premium Bible. Because it is so thick, I will have to take care with the binding. But that is the case with all books.

The NIV Study Bible (Zondervan) is easy to read and the study notes make all passages more understandable.

I bought this one for a friend. It is the exact same as I have gotten for myself. I love this Bible. It is written in large letters, so it is easy to read. I also got some tabs to make it easier to find all the different books of the Bible. I got that at a christian book store, though. I would very much suggest for anybody else to get it. The only thing that happened to me is, that after all the usage some of the first pages got lose, but that is no big deal, because all the important pages stay at their place. :D God is great!
