Make it yours as well. It’s one choice you’ll always be glad you made. SPECIAL FEATURES: NIV text remains unchanged - the most read, most trusted English-language translation. Words of Christ in red letter. NIV concordance plus subject and study notes indexes. Clearer. Stonger. Better. Referred to daily by millions of pastors, students, church leaders, and other Bible readers around the world, the renowned Zondervan NIV Study Bible notes are the crown jewel of the world’s best-selling study Bible. These over-20,000 notes are the handiwork of the same translation team that produced this Bible’s text, the New International Version. The same exacting, conservative scholarship that brought you today’s most read, most trusted Bible translation went into creating the most celebrated, widely used Bible study notes in existence. Why improve on what’s already outstanding? Because now it can be made even better. In the years since the 1985 publication of the first Zondervan NIV Study Bible edition, ongoing discoveries in archaeology, linguistics, biblical history, and other disciplines have suggested the need to revise the notes. Drawing on the most current scholarship, the world-class team who first created the study notes now present comprehensive revisions and additions that bring the notes thoroughly up to date. With all the changes to the study notes, however, one thing has remained unchanged—the time-tested, trusted text of the NIV itself. You’ll be pleased with the results. If you found the original notes indispensable in clarifying obscure Bible passages and shedding light on the meaning and significance of Scripture, you’ll love how these revised and expanded notes add even greater depth to your study of God’s Word. The New International Version (NIV) is today’s most read and most trusted English Bible translation. The goal of the NIV translation team was to produce an accurate translation and one that would have clarity and literary quality and so prove suitable for public and private reading, teaching, preaching, memorizing, and liturgical use. Today the NIV is accepted by more denominations than any other translation and is supported by a library of reference resources that is unmatched by any other translation. Over the last five years, the editors of the NIV study Bible have painstakingly reviewed, revised, and rewritten the notes of the classic, best-selling NIV Study Bible. Over 80 percent of the notes have been revised and adapted in some way from the 1996 update, and some 30% of the notes in the text have been added, completely rewritten, replaced, or deleted. Over 800 of the more than 20,000 notes in this edition are completely new. This update reflects the most recent scholarship from a conservative academic perspective, and reflects changes to the text suggested and requested over the last 15 years by students and academics who have studied, used, and loved the NIV Study Bible.

I own and read Bibles of several different versions, such as the New Living Translation, New Century Version and the King James and New King James versions. But the New International Version has been my personal favorite for nearly twenty years. The NIV Bible is one of, if not, the easiest translation to understand, and I believe it is perhaps the best study Bible available today. This Zondervan NIV Study Bible has some great study helps, including a table of biblical weights and measures, an index to subjects covered in the Bible, lots of color maps with an index to those and, of course, a concordance. Also included are timelines following the chronologies of Old and New Testament events. This is a great study Bible which I would gladly recommend to any Christian, or to any non-Christian seeking answers to his/her questions.

Excellent Study Bible! - Your "Secret Decoder Ring"
----------------------------------------------------
The NIV translation is one easiest Bibles to understand at a grade reading level of 7.8. With the added study Bible features, this becomes an excellent resource for adults or for a confirmation class. Here is what you will like:
@ Did you even wonder what Jesus was referring to when he would say, "Did you never read in the Scriptures..." The 100,000 footnotes will show you exactly what scripture is being referenced!
@ The 20,000 study notes give you deeper understanding and historical context. They stick to the facts without making political statements.
@ Numerous charts, tables, maps, diagrams, and timelines help explain context and clarify key points.
@ The Concordance and Subject Guide will help you find passages.
The NIV Study Bible is the Bible that our church gives to all 6th graders. As one student said, "This Bible is like a secret decoder ring."
We also use it for our adult Bible studies. Enjoy! - Craig

I have been reading this bible and not really impressed with it, I have a King James study bible by Nelson and it is the best bible I have ever used, This NIV study bible, the editor gives alot of his interpretations of the scriptures in the commentary section. I don't think the bible has rightly divided the word, more personal beliefs. This bible is good for someone who is new to God's word and has trouble understanding it. Print is small on personal size.

My number one study Bible -- the study notes are a great source. (I use this and the NKJV, Amplified, and NCV to get a fuller interpretation of the Word.) This Bible is distinguished by extensive notes and excellent introductions to each book within the Bible, putting each into context and exploring distinguishing features, styles, and purposes. Highly recommended.

We use these Bibles for a Bible study with prisoners. Their reading skills are not always known but most seem to handle the Bible and grasp the information fairly well. They enjoy the study aids and helps.

This product is informative, but I would not recommend it for the following reasons:

1) The footnotes, which are central in a "study" Bible, offer little theological insight, meaning or message. They relay facts and context, but do not address the "so what?" other editions often do (e.g. NLT Study Bible).

2) In my opinion, the aesthetics are lacking. The leather is not as smooth or flexible as I had expected, and the internal layout is functional but bland (font, footnote/chapter layout, etc.).

3) When I ordered the "personal" size, I was hoping for something small enough to carry in my backpack or purse. While this Bible does fit in the average bag, it is quite thick and even heavier than some of my textbooks. This is something you would want to leave at home, not tote around.

Despite these aspects, Zondervan did a solid job with text size and provided thorough information in the concordance, scattered charts & figures, and introductory chapters to each book. It's a good resource, but not one that I would consider exceptional.

I prefer the NIV Study Bible over most other study bibles in this translation. The notes keep to the point and offer useful information. Intermediate students of the Bible-- that is, readers who already have some familiarity with the text and want to know more-- will find this a very useful resource.
