I purchased this dictionary some years ago and it has been a constant companion to my bible. I take it everywhere I take my bible. I have compared the entries to other dictionaries and although it doesn't contain everything (what single volume can?) it does have certain references that are excluded by the others. For example, the term "ephod" I was unable to locate in any other dictionary but found it here not only with a definition but a picture as well. I enjoy just reading it by itself and have learned and clarified much. I highly recommend it as one of the best single volume pictorial dictionaries available to anyone seeking greater understanding of the Bible and the way things were.

While not completely exhaustive, it covers a tremendous range of topics with enough information to answer casual questions while pointing to further reference material for indepth study. A great starting place for almost any religious topic!

I purchased this book as a quick reference for our bible history lessons -
all pics are small, low quality black and white...I'll probably have a hard time explaining/describing some things and places...the maps show only "back then" I see no help as to where something is today. This "pictorial" bible dictionary is too complicated for even this grown woman to use as a quick reference. My advice would be to save your money and purchase a bible map book, a bible dictionary, and a picture book all separately as I will have to now....guess that's what I get for being cheap!

While this Bible dictionary is not a complete or exhaustive type dictionary, it is amazingly broad. The contents of some of the subjects include its background and some present information. This is just a great one volume Bible doctionary to have. Zondervan press made a right move to reprint Dr. Tenny's work.

In the past few weeks, since receiving this dictionary, I have been very impressed with the depth of information. The only negative which is really a "neutral" is that the pages are jammed with type and photos, and it all appears dated (especially the photos), like an old history book...which I actually like!

This source offers excellent background when wanting to put the Bible in chronological order and clarifying names and generations. I use it often and like it.

This is a great book it open your mind anything in the ordinary bible you don't understand.it will teac you like for instance the 3 sons of ham I kinda knew that still. 1.japhet the white race according to what they say noahs first son. 2.shem the dusky race ppl like the asians any people like incertain part of the continent... 3.ham sons of the black/dark race ppl like in all of africa an around the continent cush the first sons nubians ethiopans even descendant from saudia arabia mesopotamia even unto is israel 2.mizriam ppl around northern africa egytians kemetites all over 3.put the 3 son of noah of a lot of family all of north africa even unto somalia.4.canaan located around gaza israel

THIS DICTIONARY IS FANTASTIC. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO ANY CHRISTIAN WHO REALLY WANTS TO KNOW ABOUT THE TRUE HISTORY OF THE BIBLE.

I purchased this for my father-in-law who is a sunday school teacher and he loves the additional information it gives him in his teaching.
