5.0 out of 5 stars Another beauty, August 8, 2008

So far I've rated many Texas Tornados albums and mostly with 5 stars
because they are just incredible. The Southern "gringo" stars Doug
Sahm and Agie Meyers together with "Tex Mex" greatest interpreters
Freddy Fender and Flaco Jimenez created this "conjunto" supergroup.
Every record released by them between 1990 and 1996 is an ode to
all styles of music: blues, country, rock, tex mex, mexican folclore
etc. This particular "Zone Of Our Own" is the best example of all this.
It holds 10 songs and almost 10 styles of music!
If you still don't have this CD, get it while it's still available

4.0 out of 5 stars Tornados: Storm or no Storm, January 24, 2007

The Austin City Limits session is my favourite burst from these guys, and that extra star is reserved for that performance. Songs just a tad more appealing, particularly Freddy Fender's weepies. It's essentially the same diet, though. Bright, breezy and as big as the western skies; a far cry from my only live performance of the late, great Sir Doug at the Bottom Line in 1978, when darker atmospherics prevailed.(and Kinky Friedman and cigar were the main act!) Flaco Jiminez's accordion is essential to the Tornado's sonics and he's got plenty of room here to stretch out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Tejano Rock Music From The Tex-Mex "Super-Group", The Texas Tornados!!!!!, December 14, 2010

I love this legendary band, and this album. Here you get the classic 4 founding members: Sir Doug Sahm, Augie Myers, Freddy Fender, and the "Squeeze Box" King, Flaco Jimenez. I sure do miss Doug and Freddy, who have both gone on to "Tejano Heaven". I'm glad they have re-grouped with Doug's son Shawn in the band. Now back to this album. This is great classic "Texas Tornados" tejano music. You get alternate lead vocals, from Doug and Freddy, plus great electric guitar play from both of them, then you get Augie on the keyboards, and Flaco on the "squeeze box".
It's joyful, happy music. I love their version of "Is Anybody Goin' to San Antone" on this album. I love the entire album. Thanks!!!

I'm not a great lover of country-western music but the Texas Tornado's style of Tex-Mex music takes me back to my days in El Paso and some of the seedier dives in Juarez. Yeeee-hah!!!
