A little odd for Laumer,
This review is from: Zone Yellow (Paperback)
I enjoyed this book, especially because it focused to a large extent on a war against RATS and I hate rats. This book is not Laumer's best, nor his worst. It is more in line with Science Fiction than it is with fantasy, I'd say. If you like Laumer's writing, then try this one. If you want to pick only ONE of his books to read, then pass this one by and pick one of the better ones. This one is, however, blessedly twisted. :)

Another alternate world based on rats?,

Luckily, I didn't pay for this one - I got it as a freebie at a convention. The storyline is convoluted and difficult to follow, and reads a bit like the main character was originally a favorite RPG hero and these are his escapades courtesty of a roleplaying weekend featuring a lot of delivered pizza and beer. I haven't read any other Keith Laumer, but I'm glad that other reviewers of this book say he has better works!

The reader will recognize Keith Laumer's imaginative style, and his talent for turning the normal world into something exciting and bizarre. But the story just isn't as taught or believable as many of his others.
