It Works for Me!,

Sorry for the long report however I think this little guy may be getting an undeserved bad rap! But Zoagria is telling the truth about the problem with the SIM card reader not supporting the MAC Operating System. It seems to work as advertised on a PC running VISTA. Just read the very short installation instructions and don't install the driver unless your running WIN98. Hardest part is finding the correct manual on the CD. An Adobe Reader file in English.
I received the Sim card 12 in 1 Card Reader/Writer today and 30 minutes later I had read their tiny nine page manual, installed the SIM card editor program and copied the old SIM card data to the PC (no Apples or MACs - sorry bout that Zoagria - I feel your pain!) and on to the SIM card for my new Sony-Ericsson W760A. No problems with the SIM reader writer and it had SIM Card Editor 4.0 not 3.0 like the description says. My head was a problem understanding how to make the phone see the new SIM card data that I had written to the new phone's card, but that has absolutely nothing to do with this product and everything to do with the phone and knowledge of it's operation and menus. It delayed my completion of the task for five minutes or so and it saved manually moving 77 names and numbers. I almost passed on this product in favor of one from the UK that looks pretty much identical except for the name (Imono with an umlaut first o). They claimed to include the SIM card editor ver 4.0 all for $39 plus a bit of freight. Highly rated and by some Americans too. It had great reviews by and for PC users and it was the only product that had more favorable reviews than sorry ones, that I could find anywhere on the Internet for SIM editing. I would almost bet they are the same product. I could not be happier and I think it would be hard beat this deal if it works for you, especially with no freight using Prime. This was my first experience editing SIM cards, but I usually understand computers and programs. I thought we can always use the little 12 card reader even if only 11 work or if the SIM editor was to hostile to use. And it is not. But of course your SIM cards must be unlocked or your phone company must give you the pin number to unlock it or them if they are locked. Not a problem with AT&T. And the SIM editor will tell you in a heartbeat if a card is locked. Now I must do the same thing for my spouse's phone and looking forward to playing with it.

Terrible for MAC,
This review is from: Zonet 12-in-1 USB 2.0 Flash Memory Card Reader ZUC2830L (Personal Computers)
I'm in Afghanistan on a deployment and I don't know what to be more pissed off at, the camera that doesn't connect directly to my computer as that would allow me to send my pictures instantly, or this little POS device that doesn't even register on my computer when I plug it in. It comes with an install disk that is the size of a coaster, and that wouldn't be too bad I guess if I had a cd tray (Mac laptops don't). This should come with an explicit warning about Mac laptops or something. Why would I jam in a mini cd to get stuck the drive? I'm pissed, and it would be my fault for buying the damned thing if it didn't say "works with Mac OS"... BS!! Screw this device, use at your own risk!

I regret ordering this item. It is supposed to be plug and play, but does not work. I have never been able to read anything with it and it did not come with instructions. I could not find instructions anywhere on the web. As far as I am concerned, it was a waste of money.

I bought this to read the sim card from my ATT cell phone. Not only does it not recognize that there is even a sim card in the reader but the sim card got jammed into the slot and there is no tab or button to eject it. So I had to break the case open to get my card out. This is simply a useless piece of junk. Do NOT buy this.

MAC Users Beware,

Mac users beware -- this product is not compatible. Sure, you can read a mass storage device (which is OS-agnostic), but you can do that with the reader that you get for free with your memory card. If you want to touch SIM cards at all, you're looking at Boot Camp or else you're out of luck. The marketing is pretty deceptive on this point, so watch out!
From the product's user guide: b. For MAC OS, the combo device supports MAC OS version 9.0 and above through USB MASS STORAGE. * SIM card reader doesn't support MAC OS |
