Spanish/English counting book nicely done,
By Deborah Sandford "Marian the Librarian" (Madison, NJ, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Zoo Day Ole!: A Counting Book (Hardcover)
Subtitled "A Counting Book" minimizes the fact that this is a bilingual English/Spanish counting book! Short, pleasing rhymes make this ideal for toddler storytime: "Abuelita is coming! We're going to the zoo. Abuelita counts in Spanish. Uno, dos means one and two." Solid bold text is black, and number words are colored, which gives a nice contrast and may encourage emergent readers to pay attention to reading. The illustrations are simple, bold and strikingly colorful- what a fun day at the zoo! Storytime may end at numero diez with a two page spread for counting in Spanish. The story continues for bedtime reading, with a vignette about settling down for the nigh. Dos besos means sleep tight!
