5.0 out of 5 stars An Inticing, Educational FUN Game
As an old gamer(literally) I am very new to the Nintendo DS Lite system and games. Shoot em ups and fast action requiring a lot of button manipulation are not my style. 5.0 out of 5 stars An Inticing, Educational FUN Game, December 6, 2007

This review is from: Zoo Hospital (Video Game)
As an old gamer(literally) I am very new to the Nintendo DS Lite system and games. Shoot em ups and fast action requiring a lot of button manipulation are not my style. This game uses the stylus almost entirely with only scrolling with the buttons. I love animals and many years ago thought of becoming a vet, so I gave this game a try.

The graphics and sound are impressive. It is scientifically accurate in the description of the animals as well as 'cures' for the animals. It does make you think as to causes of ailments and the mini games within are challenging but not impossible with the stylus and older hands. It truly is fun!

The 8-12 group will love this game, and learn a lot along the way. Saving the game is easy. Restarting a new game is easy. Sound isn't mandatory to play the game, which is good if you're playing where sound would be a problem, yet the sounds and music do add an element of fun.

Definitely worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Addicting game, November 8, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Zoo Hospital (Video Game)
This game can be addicting. I brought it because I love animals. In this game your character is an intern at the zoo and helps the character's Aunt Lucy to treat different types of zoo animals such as: a zebra, elephant, panda, snake, buffalo, koala, turtle, wolf, and so on. You treat the animals by doing different mini games. A must buy for people who love animals and/or want to become a vet.

2.0 out of 5 stars Unrealistic and repetitive...., January 5, 2008
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Zoo Hospital (Video Game)
I typically love games for the DS that heavily rely upon the stylus for gameplay. This game, however, was not fun for me.

As previously mentioned, you are an intern at a zoo. You start off with a set number of animals in the zoo that thankfully, only become sick one at a time. After you treat the sick animal, you are rewarded with a new animal's arrival at the zoo. Eventually you will also begin to earn awards such as "African Animal Expert" etc.

The game is good in that the graphics are nice. There are very realistic looking- and sounding- animals here. A hyena looks and sounds like a hyena, etc. There are also facts about each animal that you can read up on such as diet, habitat, etc.

One of the main problems I had with the game is that it is not realistic at all. Actual veterinarians would laugh at the treatments administered here. Of course it's a game and I don't expect it to be completely realistic, but come on. How many spoons do I have to yank out of something's digestive track before the zoo employees stop leaving them around to be eaten? How many snakes and lizards do I need to treat for *sweating* when reptiles don't even have sweat glands? An animal broke it's leg? No problem. Simply move the bone pieces back into place and the animal will be fine. No cast required. A komodo dragon is uncomfortable? Simply pet it to relieve it's stress (pet a komodo dragon in real life and you will lose a hand). I have games like Cooking Mama and Trauma Center which simulate cooking and surgery quite well and far more realistic than what is being depicted here.

Realism would not matter so much if the gameplay was actually fun. It is fun for about the first hour. But after playing for an hour or so, I had already unlocked all the extra animals and I kept doing the same procedures over and over again. I literally removed about 10 spoons from 10 different animals all in the same exact way. The same goes for the other procedures. For example, If a bird, lizard, or lion has a broken leg, you will repair it in the exact same way every time. This got monotonous very quickly. Once the new animals are unlocked, the only thing left to do is keep treating sick animals so that you can earn your award trophies. But there's really no point to the game, no way to "win".

I am an animal lover and I was really wanting to like this game. I thought this would be more of a simulator on what it's like to be a vet---it's not. Good game for kids, not so much for adults.

5.0 out of 5 stars Realistic and interesting, March 11, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Zoo Hospital (Video Game)
My boyfriend got me this game as a present, and although there are many other animal games out there -pet vet, dogz, etc. this is game that adults can enjoy without worry that it's too childish. Minus the storyline, with free-roaming play, it is similar to Trauma Center games. There are animated animals, interesting facts about them, and each one must be diagnosed and treated before new animals can arrive. The only thing I would say that they could have improved on is by adding more animals and more than one save file for replay and multiple players. The game continues as you treat some of the same animals each time with a different problem in order to gain badges of competence in each animal category. Some ailments include; broken bones, parasites, swallowing foreign objects, viruses, or just under/over weight problems.

A Kid's Review
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Zoo Hospital (Video Game)
I give this game 4 stars. It is overall very fun and I love the setting. I want to be a vet and I love the game because of that. Most games are boring but I love this and it never gets boring. This came has pretty good graphics and the sounds are awsome. This came can never be beat, but you stop getting new animals once you complete it. You have to fix all animals the same way, bet you deal with teeth, eyes, bones, heart beat, cuts, ticks, and much more. Overall this came gets a four star.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but can get repetitive, January 16, 2008

I agree with one of the reviewers above. I bought this game for a 6 year old who has more than above average intelligence and she quickly became bored of the game, due to it's repetitive puzzles and lack of a real storyline. The graphics are nice and the info is mostly accurate but like has been said before, there are limited ways to "fix" the animals and no variation. So much more could have been done with this game but as it is, it's really limited.

I purchased this for my daughter on her 6th birthday and while the game is cool and she loves it it is only for children that can read well on their own. There is a lot text to read and it is NOT read aloud by the game. Rated E for everyone but definitely don't buy it for your little one until they can read independently.

My 6 yr old granddaughter said that it was easy for her to understand and fun to play. Her younger sister had a harder time as she cannot read and needed help to play. PERFECT for any animal lover.

My 10 year old daughter got this for Christmas and played it all that afternoon and even fell asleep that night with this game on. It's instructions are a little complicated though. Grandma was helping her learn how to play and you have to learn this one by trial and error really. I would only suggest this if the subject is something that really interests your child and they are of a more patient temperament.

4.0 out of 5 stars Zoo Hospital, August 17, 2008
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Zoo Hospital (Video Game)
I bought this game thinking it would be like Trauma Center 1 and 2 ,only animals instead of people.
Not even close,It is sooooooo easy that after playing all afternoon waiting to get a harder case to solve I looked in the awards room and found I had every Award already. You get a mammal award,Bird Award,South American Animal Award,African Animal Award,Asian Animal award, and a couple others.
I think its great for kids 13 and under that might want to become vets.It just didn't have me on the edge of my seat like Under The Knife 2.
You check the animals with a magnifying glass, check eyes and teeth. You may have to brush there teeth or clean there eyes and put eyedrops.
Most of the animals I found had lil scratches and you had to apply lice medicine to kill the parasites, these are so easy A+ every time.
While preforming an X-Ray you may find an animal which has swallowed a spoon or fork(how they got a whole of this in a nice fenced in zoo I'll never know).
Also some animals need a lil shaving cream rubbed on,then a lil shaving, then antibiotics,Then very bsic stitches ,no zig=zags like in trauma center ,You can draw a lil line over the cut like this(--) and recieve an A+.
There are alot of tests you compareto the animals record above like breathing, pulse, temp, weight etc....,but again this just wasn't what I expected.Afyer 2 days of repetitive surgerys I had mastered after the first try I ende up getting High School Musical Making the Cut,Hannah Montannah Music Jam,Bratz Super Babyz,The Suite life of Zack and Cody and Cakemania 2 ,All which blow the top off this game and I'm a 30 year old MOM.I had a gift card specifically for Ds games ,so I am far from rich, but and having a blast w/these new games.
4 stars is as a kids review definately not even a terrible gamer MOM like me!
