Product Description

This high intensity lamp with peak emissions in the blue and red regions serves to maximize the photo biological processes in plants. The emission spectrum closely resembles the absorption curve of chlorophyll-A, promoting maximum photosynthesis, ideal for planted aquariums, or terrariums. Also great for shy fish species such as dwarf cichlids, discus, etc. Use in conjunction with Ultra Sun or Tropic Sun. Zoo Meds line of fluorescent aquarium lamps are made in Europe for ultra high quality, color, and longer burn life. Our energy saving T-8 sizes can save you up to $30.00 per year in electricity over the thicker T-12 size lamps. Effective up to 10,000 hours.

To help give you a well rounded view of what kinds of Zoo Med bulbs are out there, I'm going to reference three Zoo Med bulbs I've purchased here on Amazon. I chose to work with the growth enhancing bulbs after we decided to add live plants to our aquarium.

With regard to this light, the spectrum of colors are definitely in the range of pinks. My experience was that plant growth accelerated very well. Over a period of just over two weeks, there were some noticeable growth benefits. However, the pink hues seemed oddly unnatural and my family and I found that to be unappealing. On a positive color enhancing note, fish with red colors or red accents became more vibrantly red.

Since we weren't wild about the pinkish hues given off by this light, we decided to try Zoo Med Ultra Sun Trichromatic Super Daylight 6500K Fluorescent Bulb T8 15 Watt, 18-Inch - This light is more in line with natural sunlight and the color spectrum is in the "yellow" range. In the case of this light, plant growth was also accelerated. However, I noticed that algae growth was stimulated as well. With the Ultra Sun, to use the colors of our fish seemed to wash out; they appeared duller. Of course, this light is the most natural in appearance. I think we are just spoiled by the color effects of the other lights.

Lastly, I've worked with Zoo Med Reef Sun 50and50 Fluorescent T8 Bulb 15 Watts, 18-Inch. This is actually the first light we tried (before we began using real plants). This light really isn't geared toward plant growth.

Lights work great and I love the slight pink hue. I could tell a difference in my plants about a month in. I think my 3 different types of moss love this light the most. Perfect for a low light ten gal

I ordered this for my aquarium since I wanted to put some live plants in it. It works great and I have no complaints!

I really like how this light makes my aquarium look. I bought it specifically for a planted freshwater aquarium. The previous light (a reptile light) cast a yellowish hue. The Zoo Med casts a more natural light, more in the red/blue range that is more appealing. So far my plants are thriving so I can't recommend this light enough.

Fit my fixture well and has been working great for a few weeks. Had some flickering issues at first but I'm pretty sure that't the fault of my fixture/ballasts more so then this bulb.

Highly recommended. I went for the cheapest one I could get and so far have been happy.

I really like the color hue of this bulb. The plants are doing well with it and even my neon tetras appreciate it better then the bright daylight bulb I formally had for my 10 gallon. I also have my lighting set up with a timer to control when the light comes on and off and have had no problems with the bulb burning out or overheating. I have it set to be on for seven hours at a time. I like this brand and wish I could get Amazon to carry the T5 version in 48" for my 75 gallon light fixture.

The Flora sun grows plants better than any bulb I've found under $20. But it has low visible light. I always use it with an Ultra sun
or a Reef sun bulb. These both have excellent visible light. The Flora sun has red and blue spectrums and low visible
light level and doesn't work best when use by just by it's self. It is excellent in a combo/w another bulb type.
