5.0 out of 5 stars Great substrate for digging reptiles!!
I keep and breed several species of Uromastyx. I use this in over 22 habitats for 50 + animals. They love this! Many of them are powerful diggers, and this not only allows them to form their own hides, but it helps wear down their nails naturally. Both My Egyptian Uromastyx and my Saharan Uromastyx have a very strong drive to dig, and this satisfies that need for them...

This stuff is awful. The lizards have no interest in it and they can't dig in it either.

I keep and breed several species of Uromastyx. I use this in over 22 habitats for 50 + animals. They love this! Many of them are powerful diggers, and this not only allows them to form their own hides, but it helps wear down their nails naturally. Both My Egyptian Uromastyx and my Saharan Uromastyx have a very strong drive to dig, and this satisfies that need for them.

While not ALL species have such a strong drive to dig, such as ornates or philbyis, they still enjoy the natural holes and hides you can make while this substrate is drying. It is easy to use. You can bury balloons under the wet substartes and pop them when it's dry, for nice hides. Or place any tube shaped object under the wet substrate to form tunnels. Just remove when dry!

This is an excellent product for any DESERT reptile that loves to dig. It's important to use it right though. Don't just mix it together and pour it in and smooth it out like cement:) Make sure to form hills and ledges before it dries. This is what will encourage them to continue to dig and shape it the way they want it.

One HUGE plus is that you can mount your plastic plants and branches in it while it is wet. Once it dries, they won't be knocked over and uprooted!:)

I also suggest adding an inch of regular sand substrate to the top when it is dry. They like to push this around as well, because it's softer and makes a good lining for their hides and tunnels.

If you have tried this substrate and it didn't work for you, maybe you simply don't have a digger, or your animal is still to small. It does take effort to for them to dig. It is an excellent product when used the right way for the right animals.

This stuff rocks, plain and simple. I have it set up in both my Uromastyx tanks and it is awesome. We built them little caves out of it and they have dug them deeper and they love it. Highly recommended for a natural habitat.
