My little crowntail Jack has been in love with his Betta Log "house" for 5 months now. It fit perfectly in the corner of his 5 gallon tank. It was his FAVORITE place to hang out! Just a few days ago I noticed he had torn a hole in his fin. Immediately I went to do the nylon test on all his little toys, plants, and hideaways. (This involves dragging a pair of nylons over the items. Anything it snags on can also tear a betta fin. All his toys pass this test before I put them in) His log snagged all over the place, horribly! I have no doubt it is what tore his fin.

It looks like after a few months, his log started to wear away. I noticed color loss to reveal the grey beneath, and didn't worry too much. I just washed his toy and stuck it back in. I wish I had checked with nylon again! Make sure to check and make sure there are no sharp edges every few weeks. Unfortunately I had no luck sanding down the sharp spots.

Jack loved his toy while it lasted, and I would recommend it to other betta users. HOWEVER, make sure it isn't sharp so your little fishy friend doesn't get any injuries.

This is great for Bettas. All mine love the log and enjoy swimming in it and resting in it. The only bad thing about the log is that it chips off easily. I've had mine since June and it's already had it's share of wear and tare. It's a great product though, one that I'd recommend, but for the price and how badly it lasts, not something for the long haul.

I haven't left a review before but it is true as others have said... I bought this for our betta, Larry Nacho Cheese Bratfish, who turned up his fins at the ZooMed leaf hammock (which is showing some rust by the way)...the idea of the log is cool and my boyfriend even rigged the knot side with a suction...Larry wasn't keen on it actually floating lol... But after about a month, if that, the 'paint started to peel'. It hasn't had any ill effects on anyone so we still have it in the tank because it has become his hideout and loves chasing his guppies friends away if they go near it. We have since moved his hammock to the same side of the tank near the 'hideout' and is quite happy sleeping on that.

Update 7-1-13:
Sadly Larry passed in May so I trashed the log...the tank was so very empty that a few days later I came home with a Halfmoon Plakat male named Gluten Free Fishsticks and a few days after that, I came home with another log I purchased at PetsMart....the company must have change the construction because there has been no peeling. (as a side note they have changed the leaf hammock as well. The suction cup doesn't suction well and there is no wire in the actual leaf, which is good-no rusting, you just cannot shape it.)Sticks does not sleep in the log but does dine at "the Bistro" every night. He prefers to sleep at the base of a pink and green plant.

my betta loves it and i like it so it's a win-win scenario! it does get slimy after a while though so when you do your water changes make sure you wash off the algae.

Update:

originally 5 stars - now, 1 star because after only 2 months of use, the majority of the paint began chipping off. i would not recommend this at all.

When I removed the log, all the paint that was underwater had come off the inside of the log and on the outside there is some kind of a black hard substance. Seriously, do not buy this product. I had a beautiful healthy betta until I bought this log.

My blue super delta tail Ramses is a tail biter. I have been trying to pinpoint the cause of his tailbiting. I recently bought the floating betta log with hopes that it was boredom that was causing my baby to bite his fins (it was not). I have to admit it took Ramses awhile to figure out that his log is for his amusement and to give him a place to feel safe and secure. He loves to swim through his log. Bettas love to swim through things. I recently caught him resting in his log with part of his caudal fin sticking out which was too cute. I should note that I have Ramses in a large Kritter Keeper which is approximately 3 gallons, perfect for his floating log. To keep it from moving all over the place, his log is wedged between some fake plants which he has easy access to swim in and out of. I have heard that the paint chips off the log after awhile so I am going to watch mine very carefully and suggest to people to do the same to be safe than sorry. Overall I think it was well worth the money I spent on my boy Ramses.

had my tank up for 2 years, and had no fish die. i brought this home an put it in my tank. my fish loved it... until they died from the chemicals that seeped off it. about 90 percent of the paint came off, and in my 20 gal tank i had 6 of 10 fish die... dont buy if you love your fish

It was a hit from day 1. He loves this log... rests/sleeps in it and blew his very first "bubble nest" in it. I am really happy I found the log as it allows him a break from the BIORB 8gal aquarium filter system which does create some current. Amazon had a great price too!
