Who doesn't love a graphically rich, high-quality SIM? Not me! A SIM has to be pretty good, though, to engage me for hours, and this one does. Employees, customers, bathrooms, escaping animals - so much going on. The animals are adorable and you can tell that the creators of the game put a lot of thought and loving care into the sound effects and how the animals move.

Die-hard fans of "The Crocodile Hunter" will not be disappointed in the animals' behavior.

I have caught myself playing for hours on end and realizing only because I had to go to work the next morning that I had better save the game and come back later.

Now that there are expansion packs, I'm more encouraged about future play.

My less than perfect rating is due to some missing components. When animals escape, the zoo keepers find them immediately and crate them. No one gets trampled, no one sues the zoo, no reporters, no fines from environmental groups, no protestors ... no realism there.

There could be more expansive research programs such as cloning of rare animals or cross breeding for hybrids such as Leopons and Tigons (they exist - I'm not making them up). How about animal loan programs - such as loaning my rare panda to another zoo for their fertility program for a year in exchange for more money for my zoo?

I also wish I could zoom into places like the reptile and monkey houses and see what goes on in there.

Getting employees to stick to one area is not easy. It would be better if you could color code them in addition to naming them... and putting an animal label on them so the animals they care for would be obvious without having to pause the game, highlight the employee and then get info on them.

All in all, great game play and a lot of variables make for hours on end of fun - and that can be a good thing and a bad thing.

Zoo Tycoon is one of the best computer games I have ever played! You get to select buildings, animals, and your staff, have people come to your zoo, earn "money", get awards... on the long run, it's amazing! It is usually hard for me to find computer games because I own a Macintosh, but this was the best one yet! I'd rate this game 5 stars.

My eight year old son loves animals and really enjoys playing Zoo Tycoon. It took him a while to become accustomed to creating his zoo. He has become aware of what the needs are for the animals and is very excited about creating his zoo. I'm not sure if it's because we have a MAC computer but it doesn't seem to have the same sound effects compared to a PC.

Zoo Tycoon is the most realistic and literally addictive game ever made. Design the wildest and most amazingly beautiful zoos from the comfort of your very own home! Even discover the secret of unlocking unicorns,yetis, and how to make endangered species thrive in your zoos! Make your zoo a thrill to visit by displaying the most interesting and fascinating animals in your own custom zoo! Decorate and design your zoo to thrill guests and they will never want to leave! Meanwhile, keep your guests happy and nourished by adding food kiosks of which you control the prices, animal houses,gift shops, and even carousels! Hire tour guides to lead your guests along the many different pathways of your zoos! Build viewing areas next to your exhibits for a wandering guest to stand under and watch the animals in the peaceful shade! Even design theme zoos out of all of the many possible landscapes to choose from in which to build and design your zoo! This is the most fun and realistic adventure that you could possibly have without actually visiting a zoo! You will be amazed and very impressed!
And who knows, you could be the newest and best zoo manager of all time!

Sensational game. I bought it for my 8 year old and -- with friends -- they all love it. Very educational, too, because only with sound knowledge of how to care for animals, will one succeed. I highly recommend it.

This game has EVERYTHING. You can challenge yourself to build complex zoos, make the animals happy, and make a profit. Or you can let all the animals out to eat your patrons. My kids have played this for huundreds of hours. Recently my son has been making "zookeeper zoos," putting zookeppers in cages instead of animals.

I do like money making games, but this is like... That wouldn't happen in real life. You may all be like, uh, yah, that's the whole purpose! Yah, but this is kind of hard to manage. Another thing is, it is so slow on our old computer, yet it doesn't even work on our new computer. if you want this game, you probally want a Windows 98, wich is very old school, well, to me. I just might not like this game, or just a spoiled brat, tell me.
