3.0 out of 5 stars What happened? December 12, 2013
I’ve played Zoo Tycoon on the PC, despite it having issues I still enjoyed it. When I heard news that Zoo Tycoon was coming for Xbox One, I purchase it. After playing for a few weeks, I have more cons about this game then pros.

Cons:

Lack of animal variety- True, the game says it has around 100 and so animals, but its deceiving. Each category of animal is broken down, Antelopes, Elephants, etc. When you open a category you realize there is at least a dozen of that species. There are no wolves, ocean animals, penguins, zebras, just to name a few. I do not mind if there is two or three antelope varieties but to have around ten is just ridiculous. Considering all the time they put into having such a variety with a single animal, makes me wonder why they did not spend that time making different animals such as those I mentioned above.

No Construction- Zoo Tycoon on the PC allowed you to build from the ground up, pretty much making everything. This version, there is no construction. All the exhibits are pre-made and you have a choice between, small, medium and large. The small exhibits are too small for any of the animals to live comfortably; it’s like shoving them into a closet and closing the door. As before the concession stands are already build, but the issue with those is they are oddly shaped making them not only ugly but leaving gaps in-between other buildings/exhibits. After a while, seeing all the space not used up makes an ugly birds-eyes view of your zoo. Then comes the decorations, use to be you could personalized your zoo any way you wanted. Want a lion statue within the Hamburger Stand? Sorry you can no longer do that. Not being able to customize your zoo how you want hurts this game.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy this Piece of Trash Game! December 21, 2013
There is a pathetic "Zoo Limit" in the game that stops you from playing about 6 hours into the game!

When I got this game I was really digging it. Although it looks like it's a simple game, it starts with an hour of tutorials telling you how to create and manage a zoo. It's actually fairly complex and challenging.

So I started a zoo and kept building it up. I built everything to keep both my customers and my animals happy and it was fun. Then bam! About 6 hours in I get a "your zoo has reached its maximum limit" message and the game won't let me build anymore!
I'm not some kind of zoo savant that made a megazoo in one day. I had 8 mini exhibits and 6 large exhibits. So I have 14 exhibits total and the game is actually telling me I should build more but won't let me.

I haven't used a tenth of the map, the available animals, or buildings and now I can't play any more. WTF is wrong with this company? Is this some kind of lame brained scheme to make people buy a future DLC? This game is a rip off.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good game, not enough diversity November 28, 2013
Played all of the other zoo tycoon games for the computer, and was excited when I heard this one was coming out. And its a good game, don't get me wrong, but, the amount of space you have is lacking and the variety of animals is extremely lacking. All there are is different varieties of bears, giraffes, lions, tigers, rhinos, hippos, chimpanzees, elephants for your major exhibits. there are a few more for mini exhibits, I have not unlocked them all. I really wanted to see other creatures, like Zebras and Antelope, pandas, and so forth. The space is small, as the first free form I did, I did not run out of space, but it told me I had reached my limit, so you are limited to the amount of attractions and exhibits. Once you reach that limit thats it. I hope that this game will consider making updated content.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lacking and Controls a mess December 13, 2013
By Travis
First off I have been a big fan of Zoo tycoon from their very first. So this is my personal honest opinion and I was so excited at first to get this. The graphics were lovely I do admit. But when it came down to gameplay you end up being a glorified poop cleaner and repairer.

Limited Animals..7 species to build exhibits for and within those 7 species is more of their kind just from different areas in the world. I mean seriously all those bears and they leave out pandas? There is a limit on how many species may go in a size area, and you can have no single animal, they must fit exactly their(Microsoft) requirements. Where are the zebras? Gazelles? Alligators? Ostriches? Gorillas?..etc

Now on to the limit they put on their game. Yes there is a limit and it is very small. They give all this land but you are limited with animals, decorations, concession stands, trees, and etc..whose bright idea was this?

The controls are whacked out when you try to pick their campaigns. And the game in itself doesn't recongize when you achieve a part in their campaign.

All in the quality is good..the graphics fantastic..but the game in itself is lacking from all it's past games. With the exception of the controls it is like they wanted small children to play this. It grows boring really quick. And they got extremely lazy making this one. And if they think for one minute I'm going to buy Xbox One to get the more animals one (which prolly more of the same small exhibits and very limited game play)..they are sorely mistaken..They just won me over to the new PS..Good job Microsoft!
