4.0 out of 5 stars
Real science, fun for some, weak graphics = 4 stars,

= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Zoo Vet (PC & Mac) (CD-ROM)
The "zoo vet" concept is this: you are the vetenarian at a zoo. The keepers alert you when animals are behaving strangely, and you go check them out. Your job is to identify their medical problem and treat them properly so they get well!
The diagnostic tools for this seem super-realistic and detailed. They seem based on real cases - a flamingo with a hurt foot, a zebra that's a bit manic, a camel who must be readied for transport to another zoo. For each case, you can interview the keepers, and choose from between various implements (stethoscope, forceps, hypodermic, razor, etc. etc) to solve the problem. You get a score for each bit of correct handling and if you manage a case perfectly you get an award for your "perfect score" shelf. So, the greatest strengths: if you (or your kid) wants to be a vet - this will be better than Disneyland. My 7-year-old daughter has wanted to be a vet since she was in pre-school, and she LOVES this. The game teaches some useful skills (scientific inquiry...i.e., how to ask good diagnostic questions; comparing certain values against a normal range...i.e., "is that bear's pulse normal," etc.) But, if you just want to play a fun game, I see three problems: 1) Once you've played all the cases (about 30 at 3 levels of difficulty), you're done. The fun is gone. 2) The computer-generated graphics (especially the keepers) are pretty bad. Really bad, actually. 3) If you don't like to look at gross stuff (tumors, stitches), you're not going to like this. The graphics for these may not be sophisticated but they are a bit too realistic for the faint of heart. So 5 stars for wanna-be vets over, say, 8-9 years old, 4.5 for younger wannabes, maybe 3 for everyone else.

Wonderful!,
A Kid's Review
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Zoo Vet (PC & Mac) (CD-ROM)
Parents: This game is safe for children. Don`t worry, the animals don`t die. Children: You may lose some challenges. There are 3 vet techs. One, an orange haired women who is kind of strict. Another, a dark haired man who is mean.(and kind of weird, he says "Dude" a lot) The last, my favorite, a dark haired women with her hair in a pony tail. She is really nice! You have to help animals with problems. Like a flamingo who is limping, a hyper zebra, and more grossly, the giraffe with a stool problem. Some of the graphics make me grossed out. Like an ear of an animal. Over all, a MUST buy!

Very fun but too short,
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Zoo Vet (PC & Mac) (CD-ROM)
I got this game on Christmas day, and I love it. You get to treat and care for the animals that need your help. You get to treat monkeys, lions, bears, and so much more. You get to decorate your office, answer trivia questions, learn about the vet's positions, and of course...be the vet!
This game is very short. It only took my one day to beat the game. I really wished that they made it a little longer. -Melissa
