This larger than life book appeals to children because of it's very large size. The art work is outstanding and because there is very little written word except the name of all the animals it lends itself to discussion. My 2-1/2 year old grandson Gavin loves it. Also on every page is a chameleon who changes to be like the animals on the page, so finding him is another adventure for young folks. Animals are grouped in interesting ways, for example "black and white animals", not your average animal book. As a biologist, animal lover, and grandparent it is an A+ read. And at such a reasonable price I bought two. Buy it, you will love it!

I loved this book. It's an oversized book and it's full of animals that you find in the Zoo. The illustrations of the animials are simply beautiful. Exactly my taste. The book has barely any text, only pages full of animials along with their names.

I love this book. I am an art teacher and I use this book in my class as reference for all the beautiful yet simple graphic shapes Ms. Jolivet produces in her work depicting animals

Beautiful illustrations, interesting way to categorize animals. A great book for children 3&up (maybe 2) but I'm sure older children will love it too. The huge format makes it a bit hard for my almost 4 yr old but he's learning to be very careful. I gave this as 4&5 yr old birthday gifts (about six of them) - that's how much I liked it.

I love this book! It has beautifully crafted illustrations and artistic groupings of animals-not the typical ABC animal picture book. I love its larger size and I enjoyed the interesting information tidbits located in the back pages of the book. Adults can really enjoy spending time looking at this book with their kids.

My daughter found this book at a preschool class one day, being an animal lover I *had* to get it. This book is wonderful, it has such a wide variety of animals, names for every single one, and in the back there is an index of sorts, with every animal listed alphabetically, the page(s) they can be found on, and some interesting facts about each one. Really a fantastic book. I'm so glad we came across it or I'd never have known about this awesome book!

And the opinion that matters most: Our daughter adores it. So much that she has "broke it" (ripped it) a few times with all her excited page turning. She can name a good portion of the animals, and now is to the age of asking what the unrecognized ones are and attempting to repeat the names.

This a very large (coffee table size) book filled with wonderful graphic illustrations of different animals by groups such as animals found in the desert under "Hot"; creatures found "On the Seabed"; animals with "Spots and Stripes". Great book. I'm a graphic artist and appreciate the book from an artistic point of view. My 4-1/2 year old daughter loves to find the chameleon among each group in the book. Brief description of each animal and creature is found at the back of the book under "Secrets of the animals". I bought this book when she had just turned 3 yrs old. This will be a great reference book for a long time to come.

I purchased this book for my five year old grandson. We gave it to him with tracing paper, colored pencils, and an art pad. He loved it (as did his seven year old sister.) I wish I had known about this book before I retired from teaching. It would have been in my classroom. I will be purchasing another book for my younger grandchild when he's older.
We play the game "I'm thinking of an animal " and the players ask "yes/no" questions.
This is a great coffee table book for adults as well as children.

Yes, it's just pictures with names. Yes, it's large. And, YES, my children LOVE THIS BOOK! We open the book on the floor and gather around looking at the beautiful illustrations and talking about we see. The creative groupings help us to think deeper about the animals' habits and habitats without the book being overtly "teachy." My son uses this book as a way to launch creative play. He opens it and looks at the pictures to decide which animal he wants to pretend to be. It's very fun.

No fun prose but great illustrations of a whole bunch of animals. They are grouped in some general themes (hot, cold, nocturnal etc.) and to be clear all the written information is in the back and borderline useful - but each page is covered in beautiful illustrations of animals. I am on my second book as we take it out for bedtime on a very regular basis. That is also why I gave it four stars - I love it and it seems sturdy but it did sort of wear out.
