And, I feel that the design of the Zooka is a winner, with a few caveats [e.g. when attached to the bottom of the iPad to create a stand, the buttons are obscured].

Overall, good looking, highly functional, and a great user experience!

I've tried a couple of speakers intended for tablets, and while the $20 ones do improve the sound quality a bit, the quality of this is much better and, most importantly for my needs, louder. This was important for me since the main reason I bother with external speakers for my computer devices is so I can more easily listen to podcasts when I'm across the room or in another room--a couple of the podcasts I listen to are just not loud enough/clear enough for that using the built in speakers on these devices. I didn't have any trouble getting the speaker to pair via Bluetooth with my iPod touch, and I don't expect to have trouble with a new iPad (which I don't have just yet.) The other plus for this is that it comes in fun colors and just looks nice. The (removable) kickstand is a nice touch, but...see irksome stuff below.

The irksome stuff: While the line in/aux port does in fact work quite well (I tried it out with my old-school iPod and my new Kindle Fire), and while I could wedge these non-Bluetooth devices into the speaker, you cannot use the kickstand if you have something plugged into that port, because in "kickstand mode" the aux port, the micro USB port (for charging), and *all the controls* are on the bottom. That's right; even if you aren't using the aux port and aren't charging, if you have your iPad in the speaker, and propped up with the kickstand, say in the middle of watching some videos, and you need to turn the volume up or down you'll need to pick it all up and reach underneath or lay it down to adjust the volume, then place it upright again.

The other irksome thing is that while the volume controls on the speaker do work when it's connected to a Bluetooth device, they do not work when using the aux port.

I bought this in another store, but I love it! I have the purple one and it is an amazing colour! I did read that you had to make sure that your phone volume was at least 75% and then control the volume from the Zooka if you want it louder or softer. I have to agree it creates an amazing sound! I've only tried it on my iPhone and have yet to try it with my Mac and iPad.

I got my Zooka this week to use with my iPad. I wanted to be able stream TV from the Time Warner app with better sound than the iPad offers.

The sound is clear, but not as full bodied as I had hoped. Louder than the internal speaker on the iPad, I wish it was just a few notches louder. There is no bass response that I can hear - all mid-range and treble.

Too bad the kick stand doesn't fold into the Zooka. It feels like an afterthought. I have to agree with all the other reviewers that the controls should have been on the front of the speakers. If you put the Zooka on the bottom of your iPad, the controls are completely hidden. When the Zooka is on top, the volume controls are available, but the amount of pressure you need to use to make them work causes the magnetic Smart Cover to fall off, allowing the now top heavy iPad to fall over. Annoying.

My biggest complaint is that the Bluetooth seems to interfere with the wi-fi signal to my iPad. I cannot stream video on the iPad via wi-fi without the video stalling and buffering. Also, the video quality suffers the entire time the Zooka is powered on. Is this a common problem with the Bluetooth and wi-fi combination? I just tried the Zooka with my iPhone and it stalls and buffers as well. With the Bluetooth off on both the iPad and iPhone, streaming via wi-fi is fine.

Has anyone else had this problem?

All these shortcomings are a shame, because it's a great idea.

Shortly after I posted my review of the Zooka, I looked online to see if I could find any information about Bluetooth/WiFi interference.

I can't believe the other reviews are not mentioning the popping and cracking sound when used in bluetooth mode. To me, it is enough of a distraction to make me pretend that mode doesn't exist. Also, when you are plugged in to charge with the USB theres a constant background noise, whether used wired or not. For speakers, those are really serious problem.

Here is the quick pro/con rundown with more details below.

Awful:
- Bluetooth sound

Cons:
- Short USB cord
- Background noise when charging and listening
- Power button not responsive
- Bluetooth delay when turned on.
- Too heavy to actually put on top of mackbook air monitor, unless a 90degree viewing angle is OK.

Pro:
- looks nice
- sounds good with wired connection

Also the weight of the speaker means that you can only put it on top of the monitor if it is at 90 deegree angle. Otherwise, it moves. At least on a macbook air.

Then, there is the USB cord that measures 10 inches or so. Not enough to charge it if it is on top of the monitor even... At least that's a standard micro-usb, but just shows a lack of foresight.

There is also a problem with the power on/off and the time it takes to register the bluetooth connection when turned on. If you power the device off then try to turn it back on, it will take 15-20 seconds before you can get it to work. Quite strange really. Also, once turned on, it takes another 20-30 seconds for the computer to find it.

At least, the wired sound is good, but then the speakers do not come with a cord, so you have to get one yourself. Overall I am very disappointed with this product as its flaw are so central to the usage I was hoping to do with it.
