If Kevin James sticks to making these Happy Madison movies, he'll probably have many movies where he literally plays the title character, like the Eye Doctor, the Ice Cream Man, the Mud Wrestler, the Fat Man in a Little Coat or the Hotdog Eating Champion. But the funny man, once again shows here that he can do better.
Attractive and talented actresses always do Happy Madison films "for some reason", Rosario Dawson (Clerks 2) is the latest but she surprisingly shines. Surprisingly, since the women characters are usually one dimensional and especially don't get to do much in an Adam Sandler movie.
While Sylvester Stallone, Cher and Nick Nolte do good jobs in voice roles for animals. I'm not sure what Adam Sandler was going for with his Jewish old man voice....for a monkey though, his voice acting is awful. While despite being PG, the story is pretty adult and just about dating and the James character even gets a lot of love advice from the animals. Still, grown-ups might enjoy the film, that is if they don't put it on for their kids since a lot of the jokes are geared for adults.

This movie will make you laugh. And, to all you wannbe movie critics, that are writing entire books and spoling the movie, remember what you are watching, a clean comedy. This is a great movie to watch with your wife and children. It is clean, no cursing, nudity or drug use. Just clean and funny, which is very hard to find in todays media market. Also, the synopsis is misleading, the animals show him nothing about mating it was more about how they would win the girl.

Griffin Keyes (Kevin James) is the perfect employee. In addition to being the favorite of all the animals at the Franklin Park Zoo, he's professional, courteous and well-liked by his co-workers. His dedication was only compounded when, five years earlier, he was dumped by his fiancée mid-proposal. But when his fiancée (Leslie Bibb) comes back into his life at his brother's engagement party, his career soon feels like an albatross around his neck.

Fearing the loss of their favorite zookeeper, the animals (voiced by Sylvester Stallone, Nick Nolte, Cher and others) intervene. They reveal the fact that they can speak and always could and then proceed to offer Griffin whatever help they can in winning back his former girlfriend. The attempts and advice vary in detail but what it all amounts to is a slapstick tsunami. It can enhance a storyline when used correctly but the use of it in this film is meant to replace one. It makes for a lot of laughs, but not a lot of originality. Basically, if you've seen the commercial, you've seen the movie.

I thought this movie was going to be funny, and I couldn't be more wrong. Story was slow, and not even my kids were into it.

1. Anytime there's a movie with talking animals, I get it because my kids tend to love those movies. I knew going into it that it was a PG movie and I can say that it is a PG movie. However, you have to wonder who these folks targeted the movie for... because it just misses on all levels. Most "normal" adults aren't going to enjoy this; it's not bad, but it's basically juvenile. Some scenes and episodic language isn't for those below Jr High... and those young kids are the ones that are typically going to watch talking animal movies.
2. Bottomline, this movie could have been pretty good, if it just focused on one target audience; ie young kids and their parents and cleaned up the language / certain situations... but they didn't and as a result, this movie is already headed for the trash heap of has been films that will be lost to memory etc...

This film was not well crafted and would appeal mostly to the younger crowd. I expected more from the star lineup

This is the first review I ever write, and the only reason I take time to do this is that the movie is really terrible. Don't waste you time and your money!

I rarely write any reviews, but after having read some of the extreme negative reviews I felt compelled to balance and even out the score. I can speak for our family and say that it had all of us entertained and laughing almost the whole time. It was cute, funny and had some good character building value.

There were some big names in this movie and it had such great potential but it was a big let down. They took it way too far in terms of animal and human interaction. I mean, bringing a guerrilla to TGIF and he ends up dancing with a girl and the girl whispers "I'm so glad I met you!" Come on!

Definitely some funny parts, but overall I would pass on it. I don't know that it would even appeal to the younger crowd. I think Dr. Doolittle was better in terms of the storyline mixing animals and people.

Zookeeper falls in love with Kate instead. Catches up with her with the help of Bernie the Gorilla by piggy-backing him while he scales the Zakim bridge. Oh, and a Gorilla kicking it in a TGI Friday's is awesome!

Also: Rosario Dawson needs to be on every film ever made.
