Many conventional pedal effects make the low end sound thin and lifeless. This usually is not only because of insufficient response in that range, but also because the harmonics are not handled properly. The B2 series from ZOOM makes such problems history. 24-bit resolution and a sampling frequency of 96 kHz ensure signal processing power on a par with the best rack-mount devices. 5.0 out of 5 stars Zoom B2 Excellent Pedal, February 18, 2007
I've been playing bass for twenty years. I've used a number of effects boards/pedals and I have to say I've been very impressed with the Zoom B2. The metal construction gives it a solid dependable feel when you take it out of the box. It just seems like it will survive on stage, unlike many of its plastic counterparts (including earlier zoom pedals).

It sounds awsome. I was not dissapointed. The effects are top notch. There are great presets that sound good as soon as you plug in. And of course there are many that are way over the top to the point I would consider them unusable, but if you dial back some of the more exotic effects you can get some very nice sounds. The amp/cabinet sims give a nice varity of tones and I like the compressor and chorus effects.

I was most skeptical of the built in drum machine and honestly I almost didn't buy the pedal because of this feature. It seemed so gimmicky and cheesey to put a drum machine in a bass pedal. I have to confess I love it. I dialed up a nice beat and just started jamming with it. It's a superb practice tool. The sounds and the beats are not cheesey at all.

I read other reviews from other forums and some people noted that its kind of hard to put it in bypass/tune mode. You have to hit both pedals at the same time. Unless you have very small feet (mine are size 9) or play barefoot, I can't see how this could be a problem.

So far I can't find anything I don't like about this pedal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Endless Possibilities , December 5, 2008
By Nathan A. Edwards (Jacksonville, FL USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
From the perspective of a first time bass effects pedal owner and novice bassist, the B2 is an experience changer. That is, it really provides the means to explore some different realms of sound and style. To be taken right out of the box and hooked up it is, however, a little overwhelming or maybe even disappointing. The stock quick play patches that come installed on the B2 range from decent to ridiculous and a majority of the good patches have a similar but distinct sound. If that underlying feel common of many of the patches is deemed undesirable it can be a bit of a downer not to be able to immediately plug and play. The overwhelming sentiment comes in when one tries to produce that desired sound utilizing the edit function, as there are many variables that can potentially be tweaked. After reading the manual though it quickly becomes apparent that one can achieve their perfect sound relatively easily and that the possibilities are virtually endless. Do not give up on this valuable piece of equipment until the manual has been read and had time to sink in.

The primary high points to be regaled include the B2's durable fabrication and components, ease of use and limitless possibilities (once the manual has been read), and the ZOOM Noise Reduction module, among many others. The shell is metal with rubber side bumpers that look and feel as if they could withstand serious punishment. Between the effect modules, the multiple effect types within the modules and the ability to configure precise effect parameters for each effect type, the number of permutations are literally astronomical. It would be very difficult to imagine that too many sounds have escaped this pedal's potential. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the noise reduction module is a game changer and will certainly save those who struggle with that hair triggered pickup crackle from a great deal of frustration. What is even better about this particular module is that it is not just on or off; it can be adjusted so that only the desired sound makes it to the output without sacrificing the tonal quality of the instrument.

The B2 is fairly priced for what it is and probably will not let too many people down...as long as they read the manual.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cant Beat The Sounds Or Price, May 17, 2009
I bought this to replace my B2 that got burned up in South Africa because of 220v.I also had the first plastic one and even though it was noisey cheap, and fragile,it was better than nothin, well just barely. This new unit is very quiet, and all the sounds are digital. It has a parametric and regular eq.It is in a metal case. But i think another color other than red is needed.I mostly use flange chorus and bass synth sounds.I reprogramed the factory sounds and I get alot of compliments on the sounds. For $100 you can't beat it.The only thing I would change is to make the AC adapter 100-220V instead of just 100v to avoid voltage burnouts.
