5.0 out of 5 stars Haven't Lost Their Knack, August 3, 2000

It is almost mind boggling that an album this good cannot find its way onto today's wasteland of radio programming. In the days before you had to be a felon (or sing about becoming one) to attain airplay, songs like these filled the airways. Well there's no accounting for taste. This Knack album proves that like fine wine, D. Fieger's ability to pen great pop songs just has gotten stronger over time. 'Pop is Dead', 'Can I Borrow a Kiss', and especially 'In Blue Tonight' are songs as good as you may ever hope to hear. Do yourself a favor. Pony up the few bucks for this CD. Believe me, its cheap at twice the price. Enjoy the fact that sensational records like this one are still available somewhere (thanks Amazon!)

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly outstanding, upbeat, feel good CD that rocks!, July 28, 1999

As a college student when "Get The Knack" came out, I fell in love with the upbeat pop sound that was The Knack. Twenty years later, They have done it again! There is truly no bad song on this CD, with "Can I Borrow A Kiss", Love Is All There Is", and "Harder on You" being especially catchy tunes. A great beat and very crisp sound. A great "Feel Good" CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Get the Knack Again, April 14, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Zoom (Audio CD)
This the best Knack album since Get the Knack and a must have for all Knack fans. I have visited many CD stores in the past and never have seen this CD on display. Thank you very much Amazon for having this wonderful CD in stock. I saw the band in concert in Puerto Rico on January 2000 and they played many songs from this album, and each one of them was excellent. I hope they come to the New Jersey area real soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Knack.. redux wih a different drummer !, August 15, 1999
This review is from: Zoom (Audio CD)
I was an eighth grader when Get The Knack came out and the catchy, almost early Beatlesque sound was what was appealing to me. Evidently, like wine, time can improve a band's ability, that and replace your drummer with a drumming legend, Terry Bozzio, who probably came closest to popular notice in Missing Persons with his then wife Dale Bozzio, but more noteworthy was Bozzio's progressive rock carrer, unfortunatly less know to the popular masses, having occupied the drum throne in UK, Jeff Beck, Lonely Bears and Frank Zappa as well as numerous other incredible ensembles. The tunes on this CD are catchy and pop filled and more accomplished than their chart topping debut. I hope that their return will yield another CD, but if you are looking for another Sharona, it's not on this release.

In the present popular mode of fad pop and one hit wonders, this effort may be missed by the masses and as of yet has eluded the rotation on AOR (I guess should actually be COR now (CD Oriented Radio). A cool release it is, none the less !

4.0 out of 5 stars Lively pop signature sound has "Got the Knack"., November 10, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Zoom (Audio CD)
Upon opening the CD, listened to "Pop Is Dead" about 25 times in a row at full volume. The album has the sound and energy of "Get the Knack" with a livelier drum sound and edgier guitar. Would love to hear these songs live (missed their tour stop). Knack fans will like it. Signature "Knack" sound.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Knack are Back, November 10, 1998
This review is from: Zoom (Audio CD)
Yes, the Knack, the guys that did My Sharona all those years ago. I liked them when they were fashionable and I liked them when they were unfashionable. Now that they are forgotten... I still like them. Their new album is a fast, fun collection of three and a half minute pop songs that are as crisp as the fallen leaves on a sunny autumn day. No distortion here. Grunge? Never heard of it. The songs careen along with classic pop song structures, high energy, great hooks, infectious melodies, and the clever/corny lyrics that define a Knack song. The band is intact except for a change at drummer, where Terry Bozio of Missing Persons fame has stepped in to more than ably lay down the backbeat and thrilling fills that lift these tunes into the pop stratosphere. Doug Fieger's vocals are as boyish and good-natured as ever and the whole package just has "good time" written all over it (metaphorically speaking, of course). The Knack may have only had one hit, but they are no one-hit-wonders.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great comeback, October 22, 2010
By
This review is from: Zoom (Audio CD)
The Knack's fifth studio release "Zoom" (1998), came out 7 years after their last release "Serious Fun" *** in 1991. "Fun", was their hair-hard rock period that only had several songs that stuck to your ribs. "Zoom", on the other hand is a pure power-pop masterpiece. Produced by Richard Bosworth and The Knack. The Knack brought in ex-U.K. drummer Terry Bozzio for this release. "Pop Is Dead", a sure fire hit in any other planet, with that great lyric "Pop is dead, bring your shovel". "Can I Borrow A Kiss", is just pop magic. "Smilin'", the Knack again at it's bouncy best.(Stan Lynch ex-Tom Petty helped Doug on this one). "Mr.Magazine", something The Beatles might of done back in the 60's. Again another Beatle type tune "Everything I Do". The jaunty rhythms of "Love Is All There Is", another song that should of been a hit, in a sane world. Great harmonies in "Terry & Julie Step Out", Berton's guitar rings 1966. Oh boy, another great pop-rocker "Harder On You", just great stuff. "You Gotta Be There", a simple ballad Doug Fieger style, with some warm guitar by Berton. The next track "Good Enough", brings out the best of The Knack and great drums of Terry Bozzio, bass by Prescott Niles, the jumpy guitar of Berton and Doug's vibrant vocals. The countryish, "In Blue Tonight". "Tomorrow", written by Prescott, Berton and Doug is a fast paced popper, with some greatguitar by Berton. They finish up the album, with kind of a psychedelic number "(All In The) All In All", reminds me of a John Lennon type song, he would of done on "Revolver", gentle psych-pop by The Knack. The were managed by the late Danny Sugarman who wrote about The Doors, and was a big Knack fan, after The Doors. The Knack would only release one more studio album in 2001 and a live one in 2002. Doug died in Febuary of 2010 at age 57.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Pop is Dead"...hardly, April 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Zoom (Audio CD)
The Knack, best known for 70's classic "My Sharona", return to recording with the best power pop album of the past decade. There nothing of "Sharona"'s calliber here (how often does lightning strike twice?), just a rock solid album full of instant classics. "Can I Borrow a Kiss" and "In Blue" are standout tracks.

True knack fans will not be disapointed with zoom. Every song is unique with a couple of really outstanding singles, including "Ambition" and "(all in the) All in All"! If there is any justice in the pop music industry (yeah, right) these songs will be top ten.
