Product Description

The Model 4520 Zoom We3G integrates a wireless router and 3G HSPA modem into a highly-portable product small enough to fit into a pocket, purse, briefcase, car console, or almost anywhere.  Measuring only 3.75 X 2 X .6 and weighing less than 3 ounces, the 4520 is smaller and lighter than most mobile phones.  The 4520 connects and shares the embedded 3G modem connection with up to five WiFi-compatible computers, phones, iPads, iPod touch, cameras, game stations or other devices. The wireless router provides 802.11 b/g connections at a range of 30 feet with WPS/WEP/WPA/WPA2 security. The embedded HSPA cellular modem operates at speeds up to 7.2 Mbps.  The modem is unlocked and activated by inserting a standard SIM card for data service from AT&T or most other GSM-based cellular carriers worldwide. The Lithium-polymer battery provides up to four hours of active operation with a full charge and is rechargeable from either the AC adapter included or a powered USB port.  A Micro SD slot accommodates up to 32 GB of memory and allows the 4520 to double as portable storage.  The 4520 pocket gateway's modem supports GSM/GPRS/EDGE at 850/900/1800/1900 MHz and UMTS/HSPA at 850/1900/2100MHz.

I had a verizon mifi that worked great but i barely used the 5gb data limit to justify the hefty monthly service fee given that I already pay for a blackberry with a global data plan. When I need a wifi connection, I insert the SIM card from my blackberry into the We3G to establish an internet connection with no additional monthly tethering charges. Unlike my mifi, this device will give me internet access globally. Setup is a bit tricky but operations are straightforward after that. The only downside is if you need to be on the phone while connected to the We3G but there is always Skype.

Exactly as advertised. Easy setup. Didn't even have to call AT&T. I just took the sim out of my air card, put it in the modem, did the setup to tell it who my provider is and it works well.

This is great if you want a cheap tablet that has no 3G option. Or an easy way to reroute internet traffic from a roaming phone through a local service.

There is probably one small snag; your mobile device must have a proper browser so you can reconfigure it to the service currently available to you. It does have several profiles for common carriers but I couldn't get it to switch between them automatically. I had to set the one I'm currently using as the default. I had an Android device so it wasn't a major issue.

It shuts down the wifi if not used for a while so you have to wake it between sessions. That's a good thing since the battery can last for a few days in that state. It's a 1500mah.
