I bought this shortly after my teenager returned home after disappearing with my car for 5 days. When I got her back, this product became an integral part of re-establishing trust in her again. When she was gaining back her driving priviledges, I tracked her movements continuously and watched where she went. I caught her lying 2 times about where she was at and each time, she lost priviledges for a period of time. Since those two times, I've never caught her lying about where she's at again, and yes, I still check up on her, but not continuously as I was before!

The online tracking at Zoombak.com is very easy to use. You can either do "spot checking" and see where your car is at that moment, or you can turn on "continuous tracking" and have your car tracked for an hour at a time. My only wish is that it was for longer than an hour. At the end of the hour, the tracking shuts off and you have to restart it manually.

A nice feature of the Zoombak is the ability to set zone alarms. If the car goes a certain distance from the location during certain hours, you can receive either text alerts on your cell phone, emailed alerts, or both.

You don't need a PC to track your car - it can be done via a cell phone, or even a call to Zoombak's customer service number.

I've only had to call Customer Service twice. Once to activate the unit, and again when I thought I had a problem with the unit - turns out I did not have any problem with it - and both times the agent was very polite.

I've had this permanently installed in my car so it stays constantly charged. I had Best Buy install it, and they were quick and inexpensive.

Even if you do not have teen drivers, this product will help give you and your loved ones peace of mind. Cars break down, cell phones batteries run out, cars get stolen...imagine knowing that you can find out where your car is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We live in a rural area in northern MN and have a child with Autism. We bought the Zoombak to help us be able to track him, as he has a tendency to wander without warning. In addition to being able to track him, it alerts us if he leaves our pre-defined area. This has been just what we needed to help keep our son safe.

We try to never have to use it, because using it means we've lost track of our son. But it has happened. One time his school van was over 1/2 hour late - so I got online and could see where he was on the map. - Almost home. - Another time we thought our son was in the basement playing, but he was outside (scary!) I was able to pinpoint which direction he went very quickly by going online and getting a pinpoint on the map. I also rely on the zone alert feature, as piece of mind. I have a small radius set around our home and around school. If he goes beyond the zone at an unscheduled time, I receive a text message on my cell phone. This has happened a few times. Usually there is a good reason, but I love the control I have in knowing and being able to check on this activity.

I almost decided not to buy this product based on some of the negatative reviews. Boy am I glad I DID buy it. I gave it to my sister and told her to take it with her and to send me a text when she arrived. I told her not to tell me where she was, and I would try to locate her. We played this game for a week testing the Zoombak and it only failed to transmit her location ONCE! Why you ask?

Because she had forgotten to turn it on!. I wish people would start reading the directions before they write a nasty review. They clearly state that it should not be placed under metal, yet one guy said he put it in his trunk, also remember it may take up to 15 minutes to get a location. Most of all remember it runs on a cell phone network. Does your cell phone work everywhere? No. As an ex-cop who took many missing persons reports I can easily say that this is a good product worth every penny, that does what it says! Oh and by the way I tracked it using my home computer and my iphone. And I got a signal under the seat, in the house and in the trunk. but keep in mind I live in a large city with great cell coverage.

Yes, Zoombak provides real time location information. But there were some expectations that were not met:

- The option of a message to my mobile phone when the device enters/leaves a zone isn't reliable. It works about 80% of the time. When notifications do work, they occur about 15 minutes after the event has occurred.

- The device only saves location information when you inquire it's whereabouts. I thought that I would be able to see a complete history of where the device had been, but when I look up where the device was for the last 6 hours, it only shows me where it was when I did an inquiry. So if I didn't inquire where it was for a few hours, I'll never know where it was. That time is lost.

And then there's the disappointments:

- The device must be within line of site of the sky. I am puzzled as to how they can say that you can mount it in the trunk. I put mine in the glove box and it couldn't communicate. It can however communicate through fabric (ie. the pouch on the back of a car seat).

- Sometimes the web site experiences outages, or is slow. Although outages have been brief, it can be frustrating.

Overall, I'm glad I got the Zoombak but I was expecting too much.

The Zoombak has worked incredibly well for my needs and I highly recommend it! I had first heard of the Zoombak for pets, but the Universal Locator has exceeded my expectations for an elderly relative. The website and customer support services are useful and easy to navigate. I have read other reviews that complained about brief service outages, but have not personally experienced any difficulties to date. Great product! Great service! You can't put a price tag on the piece of mind this product provides.

This unit works very well. It is able to be tracked even when inside restaurants and malls. The set-up in zoomback's website is intuitive and easy to follow. I like the fact that you can pick e-mail and cell phone notification so that wherever you are you are informed of low battery, if the device has been turned off and whether it has entered or left any of the zones you've set up. It appears that zoomback has upgraded their system so that it automatically displays on a map the whereabouts of the unit every 15 minutes, this is great.

What prevents me from giving it 5 stars is that every couple of weeks or so, the system will be briefly down and the device "cannot be located", this usually lasts no more than a couple of hours (maybe zoomback is doing system maintenance during this time). However whenever I've called their customer service, they have been very helpful and responsive.

It is easy to set up...The website is easy to navigate...I have used other trackers and this one tops them all for live tracking..

Zoombak is great because it does provide real time updates - microchips are good when the pet is found and a reader is available...knowing that you can get live updates is a comfort! The fact that you can also use it for other items is nice. This unit is small and battery life seems to be pretty good.

Got this for my greyhound. We got it for when we went out of state on vacation. We were staying at a house without a fence so we thought it couldn't hurt to throw a GPS on the dog in case she somehow got away. The dog hasn't gotten away. Its cool how you can check online to see the location, or text to find out location. I find it very easy to use. I think its great!

My wife and I checked out Zoombak after seeing it featured on the Today Show. It's turned out to be a life-saver. It kept us from having to stick a chip in our dog to track her (always nice when you don't have to make a vet visit for minor surgery) since Zoombak products can go on the collar. And I can't help but think of all the times when I was a kid and our terrier dug under/climbed over our fence and we only found out she was gone when we got home and had to drive around for hours looking for her, scared to death that she was trying to cross busy streets.

While the updates aren't instantaneous, when we tested them the lag was less than five minutes.

Overall, this thing is invaluable.
