This review is from: Zoonoses and Communicable Diseases Common to Man and Animals, Second Edition (Paperback)
This book is a very comprehensive overview of zoonotic diseases organized by disease. It includes pertinent literature references for each pathogen, so that the reader is able to obtain the original reports by performing a bit of library work. It is broad in scope, and includes detailed information on zoonotic pathogens and the manifestations of zoonotic diseases in humans and in non-human animals. The book is also indexed well, which is very helpful. The book should be updated to reflect the changes, especially in emerging zoonotic infections, that have occurred in the 13 years since its publication. As a result, readers will have to look elsewhere for information on disease due to (for example) Nipah virus, Hendra virus, Menangle virus, influenza A virus (avian-to-human transmission), and a number of recently described rickettsial diseases. Nevertheless, despite this limitation, the book retains its appeal as an easy to use, comprehensive, and relatively inexpensive book on zoonotic infections. |
