1.0 out of 5 stars Mono recording of poor quality, seems pirated. January 9, 2006
Format:Audio CD
I am so sorry about this CD! I love the soundtrack, I love Zorba the Greek and Theodorakis music, but this CD is completely mono. I have a couple of copies of the original vinyl recording. On the original the dialogue is mono and the music is stereo. Despite the cracks and pops on the original vinyl, the overall sound quality is better on my old records and the stereo imaging is wonderful vs. the mono one dimensional quality of this sad excuse for a CD. Amazon should check with the copyright holders, I strongly suspect this is a pirated copy and a poor quality one at that! I would love to buy a true stereo recording. Meanwhile please make the mono recording nature of the CD obvious to buyers.

I have been looking for this soundtrack for 20 years and looked all over the world. Thanks to the comments of previous customer it had to be the SOUNDTRACK.
There is no better Zorba than the soundtrack from the film.
Absolutely outstanding!

5.0 out of 5 stars Zorba - the full Monty July 3, 2003
By AlexH
Format:Audio CD
This is the real thing, with the dialogues between Anthony Quinn and Alan Bates as unforgettable intros to the songs. At last I can retire my vinyl.
Excellent.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack with Not-So-Great Sound March 1, 2004
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
The soundtrack is spectacular but the CD left me with two complaints. First, I could do without the dialog introduction to every song. Second, the recording quality is far less than par. Less these issues, I would still recommend Zorba the Greek!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great find! January 7, 2009
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I've been looking for this for years, and finally found it. The movie soundtrack is so much better than the musical/broadway soundtrack. The sound quality is pretty good for what it is- does not sound super hi-fi but does not sound bootleg as other reviews suggested.

4.0 out of 5 stars Follows the Film Well June 14, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I own the original soundtrack LP of "Zorba" and this CD version is an exact copy of that LP. Like the LP, the CD has excerpts of dialogue from the film. It has all of the spirited Greek music and would almost entice listeners to dance lIke Zorba!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the album sampled here September 15, 2011
By Kevin K
Format:Audio CD
There is an error in this listing. The samples in the song list for this CD are stereo re-recodings of the wonderful music from this film. For the first time, a full fidelity recording in performances so close to the originals that it is a must have. I was really looking forward to having this IN ADDITION to the beloved soundtrack version. The album that arrived today, with the cover shown above, is the actual soundtrack to Zorba the Greek: all mono, limited fidelity range, with the dialog clips from the movie as I have known and loved it for years, in spite of its limitations. This album also has been released on CD with a different cover, blue letters on a white background that states "Original Soundtrack".Zorba The Greek Compare the samples from these two CD's, they are clearly different. But the actual CD's are identical. I now have both. The previous releases of the soundtrack version I have on vinyl and reel to reel tape on the 20th Century Fox label, say "stereo" on the cover but are actually re-chanelled. It has never been released in true stereo. This mismatch between the samples provided and the CD delivered has to be an error in the Amazon listing. I really want to find the album that is sampled here. Does anyone know what it these are from?

Bought this as an album way back when the movie still first came out. Still one of my favorite films and a lot of it is the music, it's stunning!

I love the Zorba the Greek musical, because there is so much wisdom, so much soul in it. The Greek music is warm, and uplifting.

After listening to several Greek music CD's I decided to buy this one and I was not disappointed. It has several well known songs and the orchestration is very good.

1.0 out of 5 stars Zorba the Greek CD Very Poor Sound Quality
Back Biter's Zorba the Greek Soundtrack has very poor sound quality. From other reviews I expected mono sound, but the CD I received has significant static and fuzziness.

I first saw this movie when it came out (1963), and I was only 7 years old. Wonderful film, great music. The soundtrack on this CD, however, is terrible. Read more
