I have been looking for this soundtrack for 20 years and looked all over the world. Thanks to the comments of previous customer it had to be the SOUNDTRACK.
There is no better Zorba than the soundtrack from the film.
Absolutely outstanding!

AT LAST!!!!! The movie soundtrack!!!!!! I wore out my vinyl version and felt like I was searching for the Holy Grail.

This is the real thing, with the dialogues between Anthony Quinn and Alan Bates as unforgettable intros to the songs. At last I can retire my vinyl.

I am so sorry about this CD! I love the soundtrack, I love Zorba the Greek and Theodorakis music, but this CD is completely mono. I have a couple of copies of the original vinyl recording. On the original the dialogue is mono and the music is stereo. Despite the cracks and pops on the original vinyl, the overall sound quality is better on my old records and the stereo imaging is wonderful vs. the mono one dimensional quality of this sad excuse for a CD. Amazon should check with the copyright holders, I strongly suspect this is a pirated copy and a poor quality one at that! I would love to buy a true stereo recording. Meanwhile please make the mono recording nature of the CD obvious to buyers.

The soundtrack is spectacular but the CD left me with two complaints. First, I could do without the dialog introduction to every song. Second, the recording quality is far less than par. Less these issues, I would still recommend Zorba the Greek!

I am reviewing the music from the film Zorba the Greek, on FM records. As far as I can see all the reviews here so far pertain to the original soundtrack recording, which I have as well. This is a modern, digital stereo recording conducted by the composer Mikis Theodorakis. I am glad Amazon is finally carrying it, as I couldn't find it anywhere and I had to order it from FM Records directly from Greece. If you like this music, the sound and the playing couldn't be better and it's recorded under the aegis of the composer himself. It matches the original soundtrack issue track-for-track. I found the performances a shade less 'dramatic' perhaps than the original film soundtrack, but no less enjoyable, and the sound is MUCH better. As the other reviews note the sound on the reissued soundtrack CD is not the best.. but then neither was the sound on the original UA LP US issue. If you want better sound, this is the one to get.

I've been looking for this for years, and finally found it. The movie soundtrack is so much better than the musical/broadway soundtrack. The sound quality is pretty good for what it is- does not sound super hi-fi but does not sound bootleg as other reviews suggested.

Mono, thin, narrow band, with poor s/n level. I pulled out the cd and looked to see if it was a cd-r or rw someone had pirated from an old worn out 8 track or using a $1.98 microphone from Radio Shack.

Although there is not much information about the product, reviews lead you to believe that it is the original movie soundtrack which includes some dialog from the movie. It claims to be exactly like the original vinyl record. Well... it is not. Reviews claiming that it is are false and miss guiding The sound quality also leaves much to desire.

I cant believe what I am reading about this review.I almost didnt buy it, till I heard it at a friends house.
It is magical,unquestionably Mikis Theodorakis!!

The negative reviews suit the Greek people...As always when they have gold they try to "poop" all over it.

Do yourselves a favour..Get This!!!
