Saw the movies? Caught the reruns on the Disney Channel? Perhaps are a fan of pulp classics? This is for you. This is a long overdue reprinting of the original Zorro pulp stories. Different than the TV & movie adaptations? Yes. Exciting to read nonetheless? Yes. Included are the original illustrations as well as a checklist of the Zorro adventures. I eagerly await vol. 2.

These are the original tales of Zorro, just as they appeared in the original pulp magazines. They've been unavailable to the general reading public for years, and collecting the origianls would cost thousands of dollars. Now they're reprinted in clean, reset type, with the original illustrations, a gallery of the original covers, and new artist's interpretations as well.

The fame of Zorro spans nearly a century. Here is a character who was know to my grnadfather, my father, myself, my son, and now my grandsons know that "Z" is the mark of Zorro, and thrilling adventure!

This is a collection of some Zorro stories written by Johnston McCulley, the creator of Senor Zorro, from old pulp magazines. The stories are "Zorro Saves A Friend", "Zorro Hunts A Jackal", "Zorro Deals With Treason", "Mysterious Don Miguel", "Zorro Draws His Blade" and "Zorro Upsets A Plot". The book also contains a checklist of all Zorro stories on pulp magazines; good reference for Zorro fans.

The situation of these stories is a little different from that of "The Mark of Zorro", the very first Zorro novel written by McCulley. For example, in "The Mark of Zorro", nobody dreams that languid Don Diego is Senor Zorro, while in these stories, the Army officers suspect Don Diego to be Zorro. The stories mainly describe how the enemies try to trap Don Diego/Zorro and how Don Diego/Zorro brilliantly outwits them. They are amusing and I enjoy reading them.

I would be happier if this book were an ordinary size paperback and much less expensive. But I will perhaps buy Volume Two if available.

Reading this book is a real joy. If you loved the TV shows or the movies, I think this will be a real treat for you. The only problem is that it is such a quick read (because I had trouble putting it down), that it is difficult to really "soak up" the flavor of the writing. I don't recommend starting this book the week before final exams, because if you're like me, you'll neglect studying!

Wow, I got hold of this book just recently, and I must say this is a great edition that recollects the pulp stories of my favorite hero. Even though the stories would make no sense to any Zorro nitpickers out there (the chronology and inaccuracies between the stories themselves would drive them nuts!), the actual adventures are a fun read, and delightful.
The only downside is the format of the book itself, which is pretty huge, though it leaves ample space to reprint large images from the original magazines, as well as allow for a column typeset which makes it easier to read... a bit like a newspaper.
All in all, a collector's item for any Zorro fan, if you happen to be lucky enough to find one of those at an affordable price.
