5.0 out of 5 stars Read This Book!, July 20, 1998
If you are a comics aficionado , this book is a must read. Scott McCloud is one of the few creators of this generation who has not only demonstrated the depth that can be achieved in the comics medium, but has also made it accessible to all of us. The superhero plot may or may not grab you, but it's the story's characters and McCloud's storytelling style that will grab you and keep hold of you. If you're a fan of Mark Waid and Kurt Busiek, this work is well worth checking out. Even if you despise "superhero" comics, you might find yourself pleasantly surprised. After fourteen years, these stories still represent a "high water" mark in American comics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delving into normal lifes of the abnormal heroes, July 1, 1997
By A Customer
Scott McCloud's Zot! is simply amazing. For those of us who actually have hope, it will not be wasted on this sci-fi but not far stretched sentimental story of a simple boy who overcomes all odds to reach something glorious in life. Not only is the storyline enjoyable, but the plot keeps you rolling with deep character involvement, and actually shows flaws in the characters, which keeps them all stronger each chapter. Very suspeneful with his mastery of simple actions and language. I loved it

5.0 out of 5 stars The beginning of the adventure, May 20, 2011
By
This is the beginning of the Zot adventures, told in the Complete Zot (except for these 10 issues.) Here we find out how Zot entered our world and how he met Jenny...and we also discover why Butch is a monkey everytime he enters Zot's world.

These first 10 issues don't have quite the impact that the b/w Zot series does. In part, because McCloud is still finding his voice and the story in these early issues. But...the stories told are still fascinating look at an alternative superhero. One that defies the traditional one in some ways in that he's not afraid to show his weaknesses, he isn't afraid to admit when he made a mistake, and he isn't afraid to let his emotions show. Even early on McCloud is still a masterful storyteller captivating the reader with the tales of Zot, Jenny, and Butch and their adventures. McCloud is able to capture people as they really are...their emotions, the way the move, the way they speak all accurately captured within these pages. And that's the highest compliment I can offer to this series.

If you're a fan of the black and white Zot series I highly recommend picking up this book to see how the adventures began.
