5.0 out of 5 stars My new Favorite Music Video, March 10, 2006
This review is from: Zucchero: Zu and Co. - Live at the Royal Albert Hall (DVD)
I already owned the CD, Zucchero and Co, and liked it so much I wanted to see the action! Especially, I wanted to see some of the duet artists that I had never heard of (being from the US). There are wonderful songs and artists on this DVD. I think the fact that John Lee Hooker (Ali D'Oro) and Miles Davis (Dune Mosse) were pictured in caricature was extremely effective and touching as they have both passed away recently. I can't get enough of either of those songs.
This album has songs that would appeal to rockers and alternative music as well. It's also a huge production and a concert I'd love to have seen and heard!
The DVD is 2 hours long and has 24 songs. Zucchero has included duets with some terrific artists. Doloris O'Riordan - great on "Pure Love," Solomon Burke was totally himself on "Devil in Me", violinist Jenny Bae perfect on "Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime." Cheb Mami's vocal duet on "Cosi Celeste" is one of those songs that lingers in your head for days.
Simply put, I love this DVD. If I have one knock, it would be the substitution of Eric Clapton for BB King in the song "Hey Man."

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing concert, March 7, 2005
This review is from: Zucchero: Zu and Co. - Live at the Royal Albert Hall (DVD)
I watched this dvd on a flight from US to Japan and was absolutely amazed how great it was. I ended up watching it 4 time that same flight. I have been trying to find it in US ever since but without success. I was just about to order it from Europe when I checked a last time on Amazon...and there it was. I can recommend this DVD highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spellbinding Performance, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Zucchero: Zu and Co. - Live at the Royal Albert Hall (DVD)
I viewed the DVD at a friend's house in Germany and decided to buy it as a birthday gift for my wife when I returned to the US. On that day I invited friends over and we watched the concert with breaks for dinner and conversation.

Although most of the songs are in Italian, which I don't understand, Zucchero sings with a passion that envelops and mesmerizes the viewer. To add variety he has a long list of guest artists including Eric Clapton and Pavarotti perform with him. However, we were most captivated by the his duets with Dolores O'Riordan (ex-Cranberries singer) and Cheb Mami (Arabic singer from Algeria - he is also the voice on Sting's Desert Rose).

Given that Zuchero writes all his music he is a phenomenal artist both as a writer and performer. Although it has been a month since we first viewed the video, we still watch substantial sections of it whenever we find time.

I would highly recommend the DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't miss this brilliant performance, December 3, 2005
This review is from: Zucchero: Zu and Co. - Live at the Royal Albert Hall (DVD)
I recently discovered this DVD while watching EuroTV. I'm a 50-year-old who has seen hundreds of live concerts, from James Brown to Bob Dylan, and this DVD holds a candle to anything I've ever witnessed live.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Sugar from Adelmo & Co.), June 11, 2008
This review is from: Zucchero: Zu and Co. - Live at the Royal Albert Hall (DVD)
About 3 year ago, I picked up a CD entitled Zu & Co. from the Los Angeles Public library, not because I had any idea who this Zucchero was, but because, on the cover of the CD, I saw a few names such as Pavarotti, Sting and others that I were familiar with. Three years later, I am still a fan of Adelmo Fornaciari's music. Over the last 3 years, I have bought most of his CDs (some of those were overseas purchases, thanks to Amazon). I have since then, listened to many of the people who sang with Zucchero, read about their background and have been awed and overwhelmed (for example, to know about a blind gentleman with a PhD in Law, or a guy who left his PhD work, and with a paper published in "Nature", at the eleventh hour to play guitar full time in a band....fascinating for me).

I'm usually not into music videos; I find them boring and noisy. There are very few music videos that I like (U2's Rattle and Hum, or Neil Young's Greendale etc. are some examples). But this one is among those which really captivate me. (No doubt, I like to watch videos of many different but particular songs, but to watch a complete video of say 1 hour duration is something tedious to me.) However, this video is more than 2 hours long, and yet it never makes me feel bored.

Zucchero is a great singer, so it is always a pleasure to listen to him; his all-star cast makes the experience of watching this DVD even better. It is true that most of the songs (Zucchero's parts, at least) is in Italian; but then music is something that goes beyond the barrier of language (my eyes become watery while watching Renee Fleming singing "Song to the Moon" in Czech, a language of which I do not even understand a single word). You will probably never worry about the tongue Cheb Mami sings in, for example, while watching the video.

And like many others have already noted, Eric Clapton is not a substitute for B.B. King, notwithstanding the fact that Clapton enjoys "Riding with the King".
