One of my favorites from back in the day. . .,

This is a funny, funny book. Elmer Drimsdale as the B.M.C. still gives me fits of giggles if I let it. The Beast is sure to cause outright laughter, especially his timely return to action after his "compound fracture". All I am thinking about right now is the final play and Korman's line "The Beast hit him like Polaris missle" lol Oh man. . . *wipes tears from eyes* Oh man, I just remembered Sidney Rampulskey and his touch down slide. . . I still to this day use the line "Yeah, he could trip over a moonbeam." :) Or "I've never seen someone trip over the 50 yard line before." Anyways, if you ever read any Bruno & Boots books, this is definately my favorite, thought "The War With Mr. Wizzle" is close second, perhaps even equal. I think I am prejudiced because I played football in school. Parents, these are wonderful stores for children, if you don't know about Bruno & Boots get "This Can't Be Happening at Macdonald Hall" it's short and to the point. :) It might even get the kids reading, it did for me. This was read to my class, I forget which grade, but I have never forgotten the story. :)

A great new field for the boys and for the author.,

It seems that both author and characters have been here before but this book manages to mine several surprises and show itself as being utterly unique. First is the inclusion of a teen star second is the obvious love of Football and school sports which author Gordan Korman exhibits. Without resoring to any stereotypical final-game ending Korman pulls off a satisfying and true to character ending for everyone involved. Definitely worth checkng out.

A Way of Life,
By Jordan Mazur (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Zucchini Warriors (Bruno and Boots Book) (Paperback)
"A Bruno and Boots Book" is such a poor description of this series. These books ought to be shelved under "Philosophy of Life" because Gord comes through time after time with lessons and truisms, but most of all, the man gives you something to hold on to. So open up "Zucchini Warriors" (probably his best work, I've read it literally 72 times) and cling to every word he gives you...this book is hope.

The "Zucchini Warriors" was awesome. The characters are very funny. The story was great, you will never want the book to finish. You will never want to put the book down. Bruno and Boots are the main characters. Some other favourite characters are Hank the Tank, the Beast, Cathy, Elmer, Sidney, some bush Hamsters and the Blabbermouth. You'll will like it so much, you will want to buy it!! We loved it!! Shawn Pascal, Ryan Mills, and Jeff Hay Pemberton, British Columbia, Canada

The Zucchini Review,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Zucchini Warriors (Bruno and Boots Book) (Paperback)
This book is humorous and exciting at the same time making it a sure touchdown! It will most likely be easier to understand and will be more enjoyable if you are a fan of football and understand the rules. Being a football fan/player myself I understood the football parts. Basically, the story takes place when Bruno and Boots, two roomates, decide they want a rec hall for their school, but no one seems to want to pay the money for their idea. But when former Green Bay Packer great Hank the Tank Carson comes along and wants to start a football team at his former school, he is willing to buy a rec hall for his players... if they can manage to win. Unfortunately for the boys, and the school, Henry Carson is also the owner of Mr. Zucchini Sticks, the delicious fluffy fried zucchini sticks that he thinks everyone enjoys. Boy was he wrong. They take many twists and turns to find ways to win but never doubt Bruno Walton's creative ideas.
The only thing I didn't like about the book is that some parts of the story were completley random and had no effect on the outcome. One thing I especially liked was that not all the action was on the field, but most of the humor happened in the dorms and in the classroom. In my opinion, the best character was Bruno because he was funny, creative, and mischevious. Overall, I thought it was a very good book and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys humor and Gordan Korman.

Just so-so,
By Matt Hetling "Matt" (Bethel, ME USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Zucchini Warriors (Bruno and Boots Book) (Paperback)
For me, this book is when the series starts to lose its magic and just seem like Korman is churning out more of the same. The characters and the writing are solid, if predictable, but the plot has too much emphasis on the struggling sports team of misfits, most notably a superstar girl player who must hide her gender as she racks up the wins for the team.
I'm just used to the Bruno and Boots series dishing up more original storylines, and I think that it was a good thing that Korman moved on to other characters when he did. Korman remains a great writer who has a real knack for bringing out the humor in strange situations. However, in this particular book, everything just seems a little stale, especially the idea that Bruno and Boots continue to fear the Fish, even though after umpteen years of breaking the rules, his austere personality hasn't yet manifested itself in the form of severe consequences. If you are a Bruno and Boots fan, by all means read this book, but if you're picking up this author for the first time, start at the beginning of this hilarious series and work your way through them chronologically.

This book was an excellent combination of suspense, sports, and a few very silly people. These factors entwined together by master author Gordon Korman create a master piece matchable only by the author himself.
