5.0 out of 5 stars Has it all
This book has it all. I had bought the pocket guide in store at Barnes & Noble as they didn't have a copy of Dummies. The pocket guide was mostly technical and did not tell you how to do much of anything. The Zune for Dummies book gets into everything you need to know in order to actually enjoy using your device. Specifics that were helpfull was video conversion,...

3.0 out of 5 stars good but not great
I purchased this book for my 57 year old wife after she recieved a Zune 8GB player as a Christmas gift. The book has helped her understand the players capabilities to some extent, but it was written for the ealier Zune versions. She does like having the book as a reference, as opposed to sorting thru different screens of an on-line manual. Having the book and another...

1.0 out of 5 stars You don't need this book, January 16, 2009
This review is from: Zune For Dummies (Paperback)
I bought this book because when I bought my zune, I was shocked that it did not include instructions other than how to download the software from the internet, and how to charge it.

Little did I know that Microsoft was going to send me FREE information by e-mail about my zune.

Also this book was written for version 1.0. We are now using 3.1 version software, so a lot of things have changed.

Don't buy this book because you are confused about your device, it is outdated and you will receive free help soon. Once you play with your zune for a couple weeks, you will have figured it out anyway.

The book has helped her understand the players capabilities to some extent, but it was written for the ealier Zune versions. She does like having the book as a reference, as opposed to sorting thru different screens of an on-line manual. Having the book and another experienced user to consult seems to be key for her.
Overall, the book was worth the expense.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must-have primer; better than Zune's own instructions, August 5, 2007

The one-page pamphlet that comes with the Zune is simply insufficient for the novice. Zune for Dummies got me through the first week of trying to figure out how to do things that the Zune instructions don't get into. Zune is great for video, but Zune instructions don't tell you diddly! Zune for Dummies gets you going in the right direction.

OUTSTANDING - I'm not in the 11-29 group so I needed all the help I could get trying to bring my new Zune up to speed. This book is absolutely amazing - it worked and now so does my Zune. I am VERY delighted with both the book and my new Zune!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Misleading book. Only for Zune 4, 8, 30g, March 23, 2009
This review is from: Zune For Dummies (Paperback)
I own the Zune 80gb, Zune 120gb and the IPod 160gb for various professional reasons. I truly love the Zune more than my IPod. I wanted this book to help me understand the little secrets for loading, sorting and organizing my music. The descriptions within the Amazon Zune for Dummies are totally generic as to which Zune devices they apply for, and the Amazon descriptions do not state which Zune this book even applies to. Therefore, the authors make more money selling the book to the Zune 80gb and the Zune 120gb users who cannot use this book at all. Once I received this book, all the diagrams and instructions are specifically for the Zune 4, Zune 8 and the Zune 30. Therefore, this book is of ABSOLUTELY NO USE for Zune 80gb and Zune 120gb users. The software for the 80gb and 120gb is totally different than the 30gb software; and SOFTWARE IS WHAT THE MP3 PLAYERS ARE ALL ABOUT!!! Therefore, all the software instructions within this book are not close to being applicable to your Zune 80gb or Zune 120gb. The diagrams supporting the text instructions are for the Zune 30, thus the command pad instructions for using the input & output holes & ports described within the book are not for the Zune 80gb or the Zune 120gb. This book's command pad instruction set for the music commands do not even apply to the Zune 80gb or the Zune 120gb.

I say, get the Zune 80gb or Zune 120gb and enjoy the MP3 or MP4 or FM Tuner or your pod cast lifestyle, just avoid this book. By the way, the Microsoft Zune is so much better than the Apple IPod in so many ways, like organizing your music directories and music files your way for your artists and songs, and not dealing with the Apple ITunes DRM protection software that totally limits where your songs can be copied to.

4.0 out of 5 stars zune for dummies, April 30, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Zune For Dummies (Paperback)
As one reviewer called this book "...for dummies who can't find the information free on the web" - this is true, but for anyone who doesn't have the TIME to search through the zillions disassembled pieces of information about the Zune or the knowledge of which of those pieces they need, this is a great reference - a lot of it was almost too technical, but I got the basics of what I needed and recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to take the time to wade through the endless information on the web, free through it may be!

The software I downloaded did not look anything like the examples in the book. I'm returning the Zune and the book. Hope you have better luck.

4.0 out of 5 stars ZUNE for Dummy's, April 5, 2008
This review is from: Zune For Dummies (Paperback)
ZUNE for Dummy's is pretty good about pointing out the feature's ZUNE products have. However in this day and age I have already discovered most of the info by reading reviews on the net. I'd suggest buy the book or spend time searching for the data.
