5.0 out of 5 stars Better than an iPod
I first got a Zune 2 years ago for xmas. My hubby and I loved it so much we'd fight over which one of us got to use it. This year, I bought the special edition Gears of War edition for my hubby since he loves that game.

The best part of Zune is the firmware updates. His zune came with the latest updates that included games. When I plugged mine "old" zune in,...

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not waste your money on a Zune!
In Sept of 2011 I bought a new 120 GB Zune Gears of War 2 Special edit. Within less than 2 months this device stopped working. It displayed a message that said "contact customer service." Well good luck trying to get customer service from Microsoft!! Microsoft no longer lists a customer service number on the website. They want you to troubleshoot by using the website...

When I plugged mine "old" zune in, I got the update and recieved the games also. So no matter what, your zune can only get better!

I have friends that have iPods and they always drool over my Zune. The songs are cheaper also overall. And since it's Micrsoft, if you have any Microsoft, Xbox, or Zune points, they all work the same so you can use them to buy songs if you want. All it takes is a Windows Live ID. WE LOVE OUR ZUNES!

This is my 3rd Zune from Microsoft. I used up all the memory on my 80 gig, so I decided to buy a Zune 120, and also decided to shell out the extra 20$(?) for the Gears of War Content. I must say, this Zune is very sexy. It's sleek, shiny, and has has an awesome logo on the back. The only thing I was disappointed with was the standard headphones. They sound good, but the premium ones that came with my 80 gig are exceptionally better. If you are a gamer and want a Zune, this one is definitely the one to get, even for the Gears of War swag that's comes along with it.

I had a 160GB iPod Classic and I was rather impressed with it but then after seeing friend's Zunes and how much more user friendly and sleek they looked always wanted one larger than an 80GB....then Microsoft answered my prayers and made not only a 120GB monster they made one with Gears of War 2 stuff on it!! I finally jumped upon the Zune band wagon and I'm far more impressed with the Zune than the iPod....it feels really nice in your hand and the iPod seems much heavier....the Zune also seems less prone to destruction such as scratches and the likes as the iPod is cromed out and too shiny all around....but the Zune's laser etched back and design is less scratch prone and much nicer looking all together.....the "Crimson Omen" on the Gears 2 edition is extra nice...giving it the look gamers and Gears of War fans will drool over......sound quality wise I will give the edge to the Zune as well...for some reason I was listening to my iPod with Bose headphones and noticed far more distortion and crackling in the headphones than the Zune which seemed pretty clear no matter what I listened to....and in my truck through the auxilary port the Zune also seemed to sound more clear and had more precise bass...not to mention the Zune's screen is about double the iPod's size and has better resolution it seems and the Gears of War pictures allows for some cool customizations.....all in all the Zune is a true iPod killer as someone mentioned before...I'm thoroughly impressed with the Zune functionality, sound quality, interface, and over all quality...not to mention the Zune Tunes is every bit as easy to use....drag and drop...a great MP3 player Microsoft has won this old iPod lover over! To protect your investment I recommend a screen protector and the clear Speck Dragon Toughskin so you can still see the ultra-cool "Crimson Omen" etched on the back of your awesome Zune. :-)

I believed they were the end all be all of mp3 devices..no longer.
This is a quality product and those before me have stated the positives of this player, I won't repeat them.

As a long time (6 years) iPod user I was convinced to switch after using a friends Zune. I do not dislike my iPod but the Zune feels fresh to me.

I bought the GoW 2 Edition because it's a great game, but I am a fanatic over limited edition anything lol. The Crimson Omen on the back is awesome, the content is..OK, but nothing to squeel about.

I am 100% satisfied with this purchase.

Worked Great at first, then the zune would not turn on. Notified Microsoft regarding the problem, Microsoft sent a box to return the zune. Received notification on 5/1/09 the unit is replaced. I've owned Zune 8GB and never had a problem. Maybe this 120 GB zune was a lemon. I would still buy another zune even through I've had somewhat of bad luck with this one.

Got what I believe to be an absolute steal of a deal for the 120 GB Gears of War 2 Zune. Was just over $200 when I ordered it. Is everything I could ask for in an Mp3 player without the price tag of an apple product. Love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent alternative to iPods, March 9, 2009
This review is from: Zune 120 GB Video MP3 Player, Gears of War 2 Special Edition (Black) (Electronics)
For anyone who doesn't know, the zune is Microsofts answer to the iPod and it does a super job of it. The touchpad is a definite upgrade over the scrollwheel in my opinion and the screen is a bit bigger if you like to watch videos or play games(which Have been becoming more commonplace for the zune). The zune software can be a tad clunky but for $15 per month you get unlimited downloads of most music(there are some bands that don't participate but you can choose to buy those separately for 80 cents per song). Microsoft has recently added the perk of getting 10 songs for free per month.
The extra gears goodies on the zune is a nice bonus if you are a gamer also. Overall I rate this purchase a 4.5 out of 5.

4.0 out of 5 stars Zune 120 works great, February 8, 2009

This review is from: Zune 120 GB Video MP3 Player, Gears of War 2 Special Edition (Black) (Electronics)
I have had the Zune for a few months now, and think its a great all purpose mp3/media player.

The only reason I did not give it 5 stars, is the software is lacking features that power users would want. For instance, you cant drag and drop mp3/media directly to the Zune software (itunes supports this).

Also, microsoft made some dumb assumptions on how people create playlists on the fly while listening to the Zune. The concept of quick playlists was removed during a recent firmware upgrade in favor of something called "now playing" which is not persistant between power cycles. I found this feature not usable.

It only supports wmv and mp4 video formats, which is a typical microsoft annoyance, you end up having to convert alot of divx movies to something the Zune prefers.

Other than that, the Zune works very well. It supports music, movies, podcasts, videocasts (awesome selection of free content), cool games, radio, market place, wireless access to sync and browse the marketplace to download songs. If you have multiple Zunes you can also trade (wirelessly) songs with the others.

If you have an xbox360 and a live account, it integrates with your microsoft points and your xbox360 live account for music purchases and the like. Its all works seemlessly.

5.0 out of 5 stars What this zune can do., January 11, 2009
This review is from: Zune 120 GB Video MP3 Player, Gears of War 2 Special Edition (Black) (Electronics)
So this is my third or fourth zune, depending on what you would call replacements as from microsoft. And it's an amazing device, has so much storage and when it says the new screen is un scratch able, they are very correct. I dropped mine going about 20 miles an hour and the other sides scratched but the screen is still brand new. The pre loaded content is a blast. From the music score to the videos to all the pictures it comes with. Easy function ability. If anyone is looking to get a hardcore gears of war 1 or 2 fan a great gift, this would be it. Has everything you need from size, durability, and awesome GOW logo.
