5.0 out of 5 stars Great for use with Microsoft Zune player
This product makes using the Zune player easy. However, it can only be used with the Zune dock which is sold separately. Connect the Zune Dock to a PC's USB port or an AC adapter and then dock your Zune player. Connect your Zune player to a TV/stereo system and you can access your music library in Zune wirelessly. The remote has the full functionality of the player.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy for HD AV Dock!
I know this has been posted already, but just wanted to reiterate. This remore won't work with the newest HD dock. Someone on Microsoft answers told me it would, but it turned out to be a misunderstanding. If, like me, you've lost the remote for your HD AV Dock, thereby turning it into an $80 charger, you need to buy the whole previous version dock and use the remote...

4.0 out of 5 stars It does what it needs to., December 30, 2006
This review is from: Zune Wireless Remote for Zune Dock (Electronics)
First off, size wise it's about half the size of the Zune itself in just about every way. It's small, but not too small to where it could innevitably annoy you.

To me, the buttons seem like they are placed a tad oddly. The back button and play buttons are over the "d-pad", instead of on the sides of it like the Zune device itself. It takes some getting used to, and the two "skip track" buttons are even higher up then said back and play buttons, which is even more out of the way. Also, the two volume up/down buttons toward the button of the remote don't actually control the volume on the Zune. I still have yet to figure out what they do.

Now, even though the buttons are (in my humble opinion) placed oddly, the d-pad on the remote mimmicks the one on the Zune device spot-on. So, you actually don't really have to use the buttons if you don't want to. I do have one more quibble, though. The IR range doesn't seem to be that good. When I use it in my Car, I sometimes have to point the remote directly at the Dock to get any response. Maybe that's just me, though.

But, I digress. The remote does what it needs to, and pretty well overall. It also has the same "soft" feeling the Zune device has, and like the Zune, is pretty scratch resistant. Now, if only it came in Brown or White...

I ordered this thinking that I could use it with my zune v2 dock with my zune HD. Turns out it doesn't. Good thing i already had a zune 120 and it works great with that. Shipping was excellent and would recommend ordering from this seller again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Zune Wireless Remote for Zune Dock, December 23, 2007
This review is from: Zune Wireless Remote for Zune Dock (Electronics)
To be honest, this product is nice. I was ignorant though in the sense that I thought that the Zune dock was more of a sound dock and I'd be able to control it that way. This remote is for the sound dock which comes with a wire to connect to speakers. Still very nice for what it does, but some might not see the point if using it on the pc speakers. I'd recommend it if you play a lot of music in your living room or wherever there are speakers but no pc. It had decent range and I didn't have problems with it.

If, like me, you've lost the remote for your HD AV Dock, thereby turning it into an $80 charger, you need to buy the whole previous version dock and use the remote that comes with that. That one will work. The good news is that that dock can be had for about 9 bucks.

Just wanted to maybe help someone else avoid the frustration of pointing that little remote at your dock, smashing the buttons and yelling, "Why?!?".

Buying this product finishes my entire Zune A/V pack. I wish I had bought the entire pack by itself instead of buying each product individually. The small size is great.

The remote is fantastic. Really useful and is a stylist design. Works beautifully with the Zune Dock. Has good signal strength.

Not impressed with this and I don't recommend it to anyone. Sorry but the battery dies way too fast and it's very hard to control.

If you're having trouble with this item, or considering purchasing it, read the following:

You need to purchase a dock (I bought the round one), A/V cable to go from the dock to your stereo, a CR 2032 battery (it's a very common & cheap flat battery the size of a nickle), AND an AC adapter. The remote comes with a battery, but most are dead when you get the remote as they sit on the shelf too long. Any of these items that may have come with your Zune may be used. Keep in mind you will need additional ones if you do not want to disconnect what you already have. I bought all of these items and paid more for shipping than the actual Microsoft Zune brand ones as I found them all on clearance.

You MUST hook the AC adapter into the base/dock for power. You CANNOT use the power from your computer's USB port as the Zune's features can't be accessed when in sync with the computer. You hook the A/V cables into your stereo just like any other component, or into your TV.

I found my best results were to put my stereo's volume up about half way and use the Zune Remote's volume from there. The remote works flawlessly and from a great distance (all the way across the room!). Of course, you want to make sure there's nothing in front of the dock so it can receive the signal. I found the remote's buttons very easy to use and it's very comfortable. The sound quality is completely dependant on the quality of the file and the original recording. I can't speak for video as I don't use my Zune for that.

The only downsides had to do with the initial setup. It took a little research to realize that you couldn't use the computer's USB for power. Being a typical male, I didn't read the instructions first. Second, the cable situation was a little awkward. The A/V cables are too short (4.5 feet). Of course, this is only an issue if you want to set the dock/Zune a ways from your stereo. ***NOTE*** that you also have to take into consideration the distance the USB connector can go to reach an outlet or power strip. I had an issue with this, but luckily I already had some extension cables that I wasn't using. I was able to keep the dock elevated and near an outlet while using the A/V cable and an extension to get to my stereo.

Overall, I think it's GREAT to be able to use my Zune AND have remote functions. I got the dock, an A/V cable (any with a single male connector on one end & RYW connectors on the other would work), the remote, a new battery, two USB connectors (my daughter lost hers), a Zune car adapter (to play thru the radio), and shipping for under $40.

Hope this helps some people.
