Starts fast and just does not stop. Represents a progression but not a departure from New Machine for Living and well worth the wait. Mantric bass, flagrant guitar, and hard-driving drumwork will appeal to that reptilian part of your brain and make your feet twitch. It's manic, driving, hard, structured, edgy rock. I likes it.

Recently, a friend and I came across Turing Machine's "Zwei." With no prior knowlege as to what to expect, we popped it in. Immediately, I was hit by the furor that is Turing Machine. It came pulsating out of the speakers and didn't stop. Everytime I thought that it may slow down, it continued on at a feverish pace building on it's own intensity. My friend and I both jokingly wondered what state of mind one would have to be in to fully absorb Turing Machine as it was far from peaceful, certainly didn't create a party atmosphere and kind of gave us both headaches. After a brief listen, we turned it off and put on some Coldplay. This lasted for about thirty seconds. Not only did I find myself wanting to put Turing Machine back on, but I found myself wanting to smash the hell out of every Coldplay album I had..

But the question remained. What state of mind must one be in to get the most out of Turing Machine? A wedding? No. A funeral? Maybe. Mind expanding drugs? Ehhh...it's almost too risky. That afternoon, I was to head over to the eye doctor. It had snowed the night before and a fresh blanket of white power abounded all throughout the county. I made it to my appointment where I was administered your run of the mill eye drops used to dilate the pupil. This forced me to remove my contact lenses and utlize my glasses. The eye drops clouded my vision as I walked out of the doctor's and returned to my car. I started the car and instinctively found myself popping in Turing Machine. As I pulled out of the lot Turing Machine began to drive the car along the guitars pushing us along, the volume turned high. My car came out of the shadows and into the sun which, reflecting off the new snow, struck my glasses. Was this too much for my dialated pupils to handle? Maybe it would've been, but with Turing Machine blasting through my ear canal, there was no question it was. Now I've had my fair share of disorienting experiences (ie: spinning in circles too long, airplane rides), but nothing like this. Turing Machine had blinded me! I swerved back and forth unable to tell left from right, up from down! I couldn't get my hand to the volume control on my stereo, i thought I was going to throw up, but knew that if i took what little vision remained in my eyes off the road, I was a goner. Would Turing Machine be the last sounds that I heard?

I'm okay today. I made it to the side of the road after a couple close calls. The drive was and still is the most exilerating 30 seconds of my life. After the incident, I called my friend and told him that I had found the perfect formula to compliment Turing Machine. I quickly stocked up on eye drops and will soon be moving up North where I know it snows more often and will have my Turing Machine records close at hand. Enjoy! This band is truley original and a damn good time!

Get this now! Along with their first cd! you won't be disappointed, unless of course, you need someone hollering at you. The beats are simple yet complex, the guitars and bass leave no note unfit for consumption, and the whole is greater than the parts here. Unique stuff, without trying to overdo their algebra.

Anyone familiar with Turing Machine will know full well what to expect in their follow up to 'A New Machine for Living' - endless demonstrations in math rock skills. In my opinion they've improved slightly on this album. Production is great and the songs just keep going. Right when you think these guys should be about to keel over from rocking, the drums pick up and they go into an even better part. The album seems to float seamlessly from track to track, all the while demanding your attention. This is not an album that you can simply pop in and let it fade to background music. This is total math rock saturation at its finest.

Turing Machine is a Brooklyn (NY) trio playing rock instrumentals. Some themes are better then others, but it's basically a pretty good album. I'm glad I bought it.
