Editorial Reviews

Review

Darkly enchanting remix album from one of Europe s leading gothic/darkwave bands, L Ame Immortelle!

Features intense and ethereal remixes of tracks from the band s newest album Dann Habe Im Umsonst Gelebt!

Remixes by members of Europe s most revered industrial/gothic artists such as Assemblage 23, In Strict Confidence, Faith And The Muse and Zeromancer!

Special enhanced CD with over an hours worth of live concert and behind the stage footage!

Founded in 1996, L Ame Immortelle have taken the German gothic/industrial scene by storm, becoming one of the most recognizable and highly praised music groups in Europe. The band s debut album Lieder Die Wie Wunden Bluten featured a confident mixture of expertise songwriting, experimental electronics, gorgeously operatic female vocals (courtesy of the astonishing Sonja Krashoufer) alongside world music influences as well as penetrating guitars. Three more albums would follow, each one increasing more complex than the previous and all the while gaining a larger audience as the band performed sold-out concerts all across Europe. Zwielicht has already been an enormous success amongst European fans and now receives its first Stateside release. --Cleopatra Records

5.0 out of 5 stars Not your typical remix album, September 11, 2003

This review is from: Zwielicht: Remixes (Audio CD)
I recently got into L'Ame Immortelle when I picked up Cleopatra Records' "This is Neo-Goth" at my favorite record store last weekend. I just absolutely loved what I heard by the one track on the 3-cd compilation "The Truth Behind [dumped]". Vocalist Sonja Krashoufer really impressed me with her range. I thought she had one of the most beautiful voices in music today. I found myself playing "The Truth Behind" constantly whenever I listen to "This is Neo Goth". Within no time, I just had to find the album that had that song. I immediately ordered "Zwielicht: The Remixes" the following day. Much to my surprise, the cd went out practically the next day. I just got the cd today. My only gripe about the cd is that there were a few songs that required more than one listen before I could make a final judgement. "Epitaph [Sacrificed]" was one of those songs. The song itself reminded me quite a bit of Funker Vogt with the gruff vocals. Very good song though. I loved "Judgement" which was remixed by one half of Faith & the Muse [i.e William Faith], with F&tM's Monica Richards on vocals. Beautiful song. "Erinnerrung" is another beautiful song. It was strictly remixed as an instrumental with only stringed instruments used. The bonus track "Tiefster Winter" (remixed by Zeromancer) was amazing on the first listen. "Rearranging" (Matze_mix) was simply a stirring remix. Between the haunting vocals of Sonja and the inclusion of violins by Tina Kogel, no words could describe the magic I felt listening to the song. Tracks such as "Voiceless", "Forgive Me", "and "Dead Actor's Requiem" did require a few more listens for the songs to grow on me. They are very good songs, they just didn't take to me right away. I don't need to go into description about how much I love "The Truth Behind". I already said my peace about the song. Despite that "Zwielicht" is a remix album, I loved what I heard. I am definitely a fan of L'Ame Immortelle.

3.0 out of 5 stars Skip this; get Dann Habe Ich Umsonst Gelebt., March 5, 2009
This review is from: Zwielicht: Remixes (Audio CD)
If you're torn between this album and Dann Habe Ich Umsonst Gelebt Re-release, I recommend the latter. This album is mostly remixes of Dann Habe Ich Umsonst Gelebt Re-release, but I disgree completely with the previous reviewer; These remixes are horrible. I was sorely disappointed, since I love the original songs.

"Rearranging" sounds like a bunch of noise. "Slut," which is a song that makes me laugh normally, just sounds like crap. Thomas' voice on "Epitaph" is put through some distortion that makes him sound like an evil tranny. Some of Sonja's beautiful vocals are stripped off of "Was Hält Mich Noch Hier".

I have nothing good to say about the remixes.

I gave this three stars, because I love the original songs, and at least there is a second disc with live videos.
