4.0 out of 5 stars Hurts my hand, but great buy
I ordered this knife as part of a budding good-knife collection. I've used it for about two weeks now, to cut everything: chocolate, chicken, fruit, bacon, onions, and lots and lots of scrap paper (alas, even a curious man's fingernail fell victim to this knife). It's very sharp, and holds a blade as you'd expect a Henckels knife to do. It performs quite well...

3.0 out of 5 stars Have not tried it yet,but....
I have not tried the knife yet, but I must say I am disappointed in the customer service I recieved. After trying to find out the answer to my question (did the knife come with a protective sheath) via e-mail unsuccessfully, I called Customer Service. After holding for a significant amount of time, the representative came back on the line and told me it did. I ordered the...

It performs quite well.

However, I'm not sure it will become my favorite knife. An odd thing happens when I use it: I can't just grab the handle and control the knife like you'd expect to control any decent chef's knife. I end up laying my whole index finger along the top of the blade and crowding all of the rest of my fingers in the front 1.5" of handle space. I try to make myself use only the handle, but the knife feels unwieldy and strange. I'd chalk this peculiarity up to my own ignorance of how to properly use a knife, but here's the thing--the boyfriend, using it the other day to cut chocolate (okay, it was his fingernail that fell victim to the "test kitchen" trials), found himself holding the knife the very same way.

We might just be weird, and yes, Amazon is selling a great German knife for $33, but be warned--that grip just isn't as comfortable, nor does it provide the same power, as a more expensive Henckels knife.

5.0 out of 5 stars TOP, May 14, 2011
I bought the whole set witch runs around $500 and I would buy it again! This is the best knife set I ever have owned. They are VERY SHARP so watch your fingers! I am German so I knew the brand and looked for it since I had a hard time to find good knifes in the States :( The price here is just great I wish I would have bought it from Amazon I paid so much more. By the way in Germany you pay just for the meat, chef or breat knife around $90 to $120 alone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Our knife purchase, November 16, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is an excellent knife. I had a J.A Henckel given to me years ago, and I soon found it to be the best of our kitchen knives. So I bought another, and now I have two "best knives". They keep their sharpening edge longer than the others. Easy to hold (I have smaller hands). And while I have several knives, if I can't find this one, (or the other J.A Henckel knife) I will search all the drawers, dishwasher and sink until I find one of the two we own, I will not grab one of the other knives. The price was very good and J.A Henckels are the only knife brand I will purchase from now on.

This knife was to replace my 6" knife that disappeared from the twin signature set. Very clean cut, excellent craftsmanship & quality you expect from Henckels. Excellent buy

5.0 out of 5 stars Gift Was A Hit, January 27, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The Henckels knife I purchased was a gift for a close friend.. I thought the price was an excellent value and now Karen has a sharp knife in her drawer. Karen was very excited when she received her gift and has used the knife several times since receiving it. Karen raved as to how sharp the knife is and easy it was to use..I would recommend this knife to anyone who needs a good knife to be used for slicing or medium chopping..

5.0 out of 5 stars A Knife For All, November 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this knife because it is a part of a set that every chef I know has at least a part of. It suits many roles in a kitchen being that it is a German traditional blade. But not for everything being that it is only a six inch. People with big hands beware it is more for slicing than chopping. Also the flat sided handle makes it very easy to cut things evenly on its side, and stay off the table. It will for sure come with a razor sharp edge, that you wont have to sharpen for a long time. Most of all GREAT price, with free shipping.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love This Knife, November 1, 2011

Researched knives for a long time before ordering this one. You don't know how bad your knives are until you get a professional model. I don't put it in the dishwasher and handle it with care so it will last a long time.
