5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
I got a set of four of these same steak knives for Christmas 2004, and they've been excellent. They've seen constant use and are still razor-sharp.

It's been a real revelation to me: So this is what good kitchen knives are like, and this is why they cost more than the lightweight stuff!

I've never had a genuinely good chef's knife, paring knife,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
The knives are sharp but the serrated edge does tear the meat. Too good to return but not what I expected from a "hand-honed" blade.

It's been a real revelation to me: So this is what good kitchen knives are like, and this is why they cost more than the lightweight stuff!

I've never had a genuinely good chef's knife, paring knife, etc. But when I'm ready to get a serious set, I know exactly what brand I'll buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Adequate Cutlery, October 3, 2005
This review is from: Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Gourmet 8-Piece Steak Knife Set with Box (Kitchen)
I purchased these knives after having purchased and returned mundial steak knives that had great blades, but the black plastic handles faded after only one hand washing. These knives have serrated blades and are fine for cutting steak on a plate, and I don't think I would want steak knives to be any sharper than what these are, because if so, they would damage my dinner plates. You aren't supposed to wash them in the dishwasher, but I have several times now and they came through as good as new. The rose wood box is nothing special, but it's okay. Overall, for the price, I'm quite happy with these knives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Set Of Knifes!!, December 7, 2002

I just received these knifes and I was very pleased. The quality was great on the knifes and the box was even nice. You are always hesitant buying something without seeing it, but I was pleasantly surprised with this set. For the money you just can't beat it.

Don't let the price fool you. Yes, they seem expensive but they are worth every penny. If you are a meat and steak lover, these are for you!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Warning!! Inaccurate and misleading description, January 12, 2010

Just received these knives and noticed the items were not exactly as pictured. Upon examining I noticed the package was marked "Knives Made in Spain"
The item description on Amazon clearly states "Made in Germany" Called Henckles Customer Service, and they confirmed these knives are indeed made in Spain. Every website that carries these describe this item as made in Germany, which, based on my own perception means a higher quality product. I feel cheated. The word "Germany" is stamped on the knife blades, which according to the manufacturer should say "Spain" Just another example of the consumer being ripped off.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sharp? Yes, Sharp., January 7, 2008

Very good knives. Be very careful when washing, I cut myself twice already (the first time I wasn't even aware of it for a few hours). In the description the maker indicates that the knives should be hand washed and dried, and not soaked... That's because the handles are very stain-saturated, if left wet the stain bleeds out onto the blade. Nevertheless, they were made to cut, and that's exactly what they do. Regarding the price, I bought them on sale, and I think that the sale price should be the retail price to make the set a good value.

They are sharp which is what I wanted, however the main reason I ordered them is because I wanted good knives that are dishwasher safe. These are proving not to be! They are starting to get stains on them, and I have only had them a month. I am thinking of returning them even though though they cut beautifully.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as pictured, November 30, 2011

I just received these knives yesterday and as a previous reviewer indicated, the knives I received were NOT made in Germany as the product description said, on the knives themselves (metal blade) it is stamped "Made in Spain". Also the box is not as pictured but is another type of wooden box with the lighter inside (no dark felt lining).

Hopefully the knives are the same quality, but I am just disappointed that the product description and images are misleading.

Those knives are good - a bit on a light side, but once you got used to them, feel pretty naturally in a hand. They are sharp and cut steaks perfectly - I did not notice any tearing of the meat, as mentioned by other reviewers. Knives are indeed made in Spain - it is written on a blade so it's not a German-made knives (if it matters to you). The red wooden box - actually, made in China and you can see where Henckels brand name start to deteriorate. Our box was bent so much you could not even close it properly. I mean, common - you are selling a Gourmet Set - make sure everything is perfect. Brand-name German knives made in Spain with the box made in China - it could be funny if it would not be sad.
So if you don't care about the box so much - you can get pretty good steak knives for a decent price.
