ZyXEL G202 802.11g USB Wireless Adapter with Weighted Desktop Base, WPA2 and Software Controlled AP Features

I started looking at wireless adapters because I was intending to build myself a desktop, and my laptop's wireless card was pre WPA and WPA2. The house I had just moved into had a wireless router already, but it was using WPA encryption, with a pre-shared key (PSK). I of course could not connect with my laptop.

Enter this wonderful zyxel adapter. I purchased it because it was usb, and because of the handy extension and usb stick design. Now, after building my desktop I have it plugged into the back of my desktop with the extension. If I want to use my laptop, I simply disconnect the stick from the stand and plug it into my laptop. It couldn't be easier.

As far as the software goes, I don't see anything particularly wrong with the included software. It's not fancy, but it works. The windows wireless manager also works. And this device works flawlessly with Vista.

I use x64 bit operating systems & I had problems with other

USB adaptors. But eversince I procured ZyXEL adaptor, all the

compatability issues simply vanished. This is a superb product!

Bought this for my girlfriend...she was a using a linksys usb adapter and that was really a piece of junk. Set this up in about 3 minutes and she was good to go. Been using it for about 2 weeks now and its worked absolutely perfectly!

I recently upgraded my desktop PC to Windows 7 and moved it to another room w/out internet access. I was somewhat regretting the upgrade after reading so many negative reviews about configuring wireless USB adapters on PC's running Windows 7. I came close to going back to going back to the XP platform.

I didn't give any consideration to Linksys due to previous experience with customer support. Extremely long hold times and almost impossible to communicate with tech support as they were located in India. (Avg. phone call with Linksys was 50-80 mins!)

At any rate, I decided on ZyXel based on two factors. The first factor was that although ZyXel customers had some issues with Windows 7, customers seemed pleased with the tech support they received. Secondly, the price was right and I figured if I was going to be stuck with something that wasn't compatible I didn't want to pay anymore than I needed to.

I hesitantly ordered this product and it arrived in only two business days with free standard shipping! I made sure that I would perform the installation when time wasn't a factor as I expected to have to contact tech support for assistance with obtaining additional drivers as the product clearly states Windows 2000 0r XP compatible. Imagine my surprise when the entire installation was completed in just 15 minutes! No phone calls necessary, just installed software from CD and plugged the USB cord in and I was ready to go.

That said, I've only been using it for one day and I am extremely pleased. The internet router is in the basement home office and this desktop is 3 floor up! No dropped connection, no system crash, and the signal strength is excellent! I would highly recommend this product to anyone, especially those who are running Windows 7.

I selected this product because this product had a clean slate whereas other similar products had reviews in which people stated that the software/drivers caused their system to crash. Well unfortunately this caused my system to crash (completely locked up - mouse wouldn't move at all) repeatedly, particularly when I was in the middle of an active web browser session.

I phoned Zyxel support, and their tech answered the phone immediately. He walked me through the procedure to uninstall/reinstall. He was very friendly and patient, but unfortunately the problem could not be fixed.

I have Windows XP, and the steps to try to fix it included disabling the utility from automatic startup (start/run/msconfig.exe, then uncheck the box next to the Zyxel entry). Then we configured Windows Network Connections (Start/Control Panel/Network Connections) and I right clicked on the Zyxel device to configure properties. There I told it which network to connect to, and then we let it run. Initially I was able to surf the web, but after a few hours of idle time, it froze up my computer once again.

I love this little device. It works far better than the PCI wireless card than I started with even thought it is a fraction of the size and far easier to install. My system is relatively close to the (old linksys) base so I cannot attest to range but if that isn't a consideration I'd recommend this in a heartbeat.

I was having reception problems with my netgear USB wireless adapter as my office was upstairs and the netgear lost the connection on a regular basis. I've had this ZyXEL G202 for over a month and I haven't dropped a connection yet. Installation with Vista was seamless and simple. Absolutely no problems whatsoever.

This unit works great. It is connected to a computer in our kitchen with the wireless base located in the back bedrooom. The signal is excellent. I would definitely recommend this unit. Had tried another brand in the past that did not work well. Easy to install.

Have installed two of these and it is working well for me. The only problem I had was one of the computers will not remember the encryption pass phrase and it has to be entered with each boot. I switched to MAC address filtering and that solves the problem of drive by users but no longer secures the communications. This is probably a conflict with something else running on the machine because I do not have that problem on a second machine.

With the router in the basement and the adapters on the second floor I am getting about 75% quality and the performance is more than satisfactory.

I moved my seldom used desktop from the living room into the den which was about 50 feet away from the router. There is a massive fireplace in the area which I was sure would block the signal. No worries! It picked up the signal with 5 bars. Just plug it into an available usb port, set it ontop of one of my speakers (the cable could be a bit longer but that is the only way I would enhance it) Ease cheap fix to get my internet in 2 rooms away, no stringing wires!!!
