Probably the Easiest Corkscrew Ever, January 19, 2006
This is probably the Easiest Corkscrew Ever to use!
Maybe, for the purist and the professional, the classic French sommelier's corkscrew is "de rigueur", especially the ones by Laguiole (expensive but without doubt a beautifully crafted and elegant must for the serious wine enthusiast).
But as far as ease and speed Zyliss wins hands down for quotidian wine use. And ,as far as I'm concerned, it also beats out that recent piece of umbersome heavy artillery commonly referred to as The Rabbit.
So I'll challenge anyone to find a more compact, effective, simpler, easier, smoother, and quicker to use corkscrew, at any price, than this Zyliss model...which, by the way, also contains an equally quick and easy to use built-in foil cutter.

best corkscrew ever!, September 14, 2011
This review is from: Zyliss 20116 Corkscrew With Foil Cutter, Black (Kitchen)
This is hands-down the best, simplest, lightest, most efficient corkscrew I've ever used. I'm really disappointed that it seems not to be available any longer.

TSA approved (maybe) for bringing with you on a flight, September 20, 2009
Unless I pack a wine opener in my checked baggage, I usually end up paying 3 dollars for a cork screw when i get to my destination. That's because I was under the impression TSA prohibited bringing cork screws with you in carry on baggage. Turns out it's a "yes, no, maybe" deal.
According to a TSA website ([...]):
"Corkscrews are a little tricky, but also permitted. Let's be clear, corkscrews without knives. We know many corkscrews have the little knife that help cut the metal wrapping on a bottle, those are not allowed, but the little corkscrews with no knife are. Clear? No? Let's try this.
Fancy schmancy corkscrews with knives, no. Cheap corkscrews with no knife, yes."
Searching around, I found the Zyliss recommended by wine lovers and flight attendants (see [...])
OK, so it's no longer available on Amazon, and they don't know when it will be back. I found one today in a "Smart and Final" store. It worked as advertised. Next friday I'll see if I can get it past TSA.
That is the "maybe" part of the TSA deal: Security officers still have the option of prohibiting someone from bringing something on a plane if they want to. Or, as one reader of the TSA fine print put it:
"The following items will not be allowed through the security checkpoint. Please note that this list is not all-inclusive. In addition to items specifically listed here, other items that may be deemed to present a potential threat may also be prohibited. ...
Cattle prods
Compressed air guns
Corkscrews Cricket bats
Crow bars ... "
