4.0 out of 5 stars Review Strong Boy Jar Opener
This is a useful item. Some coordination is required to hold the forward part of the handle and rear part at the same time while starting to tighten it, but it grips very well and makes lid removal easy. It can also be used to hold the jar while you turn the lid by hand or with another opener.

This item is the Strong Boy 2, which is made of plastic. That...

3.0 out of 5 stars OK but not for everyone
The opener is well made and has held up well after over a year of use. I would have rated it four stars (the band sometimes slips), but just recently an acquaintance, who's older and has arthritis in her wrists, found this opener almost impossible to use; rotating the handle to tighten the band strained her wrists, causing pain. She tried using her other hand with same...

4.0 out of 5 stars Review Strong Boy Jar Opener, August 1, 2010

This item is the Strong Boy 2, which is made of plastic. That is why the price has come down. The original, I believe was aluminum with a steel band.

Opens jars with little effort. I really like the adjustable strap that opens both large and small bottles of any size that will fit in the strap. Easy to adjust.

5.0 out of 5 stars Improvement on a great product, March 6, 2011

I was extremely disappointed when I could no longer find the Zyliss jar opener that I wanted to give as a gift to two friends, disappointed, that is, until I discovered that it had been replaced by a newer model. The Zyliss 20780 Strong Boy is much more substantial in heft and size than the previous version and no longer has a strap made of thin metal. The strap expands and contracts when you turn the lower part of the handle so that it accommodates jar lids and bottle tops of various sizes. The original did the job extremely well, but always made me feel nervous that a particularly resistant lid would break the tool. Fortunately--or unfortunately--my original is still going strong, so I do not have a good enough reason to buy the Strong Boy for myself. But, for anyone wanting a never-fail jar opener that even a tiny, elderly, or enfeebled person could use successfully, this is the tool to buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars As advertised, February 11, 2011

Can occasionally require you to think about which direct you're going. Otherwise, it seems to do a fine job.

This is an awesome piece of kitchen wear. We use strap wrenches in the industrial world, so it was a no brainer to use one for opening jars. I only wish I had thought of it. Everyone needs one. Works like a charm! Best thing to come out of Switzerland since the watch!

5.0 out of 5 stars Open Anything, January 5, 2012

This is a very useful device for opening the most stubborn of lids, tops and anything you need to twist. For people with limited power of grip and twist this is the device. I bought 5 and gave them as gifts. Great reviews, most frequently "something that is useful everyday". You can even undo the screw top wine bottles! As an engineer I am impressed with the workmanship, design and the quality of the opener.
This is a must as a minimum for you kitchen, does a good job on oil filters as well.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK but not for everyone, December 23, 2011
This review is from: Zyliss 20780 Strong Boy Handheld Jar Opener (Kitchen)
The opener is well made and has held up well after over a year of use. I would have rated it four stars (the band sometimes slips), but just recently an acquaintance, who's older and has arthritis in her wrists, found this opener almost impossible to use; rotating the handle to tighten the band strained her wrists, causing pain. She tried using her other hand with same results, quite surprisingly.

If you are thinking of buying this for someone who has arthritis in their hands or very weak wrists, be sure to ask first if they experience pain when trying to rotate things like door knobs or similar objects.
