5.0 out of 5 stars Zyliss Julienne Peeler March 13, 2012
No more slimy julienned carrots. I bought this julienne peeler after seeing one for the first time in a Pampered Chef book and since I love gadgets I was thrilled but a sample was not available to play with. It is the only one I have ever tired so I can't compare it to any others but it does a great job on carrots: After removing the outer peel,(Someone needs to makes a utensil that both peels and juliennes) I place a medium sized carrot on a flat surface, while holding one end and starting in the middle of the carrot I pull the peeler toward me turning the carrot until the carrot is too thin to make contact with the peeler, leaving a pencil sized end. Then I turn the carrot around and holding on to this end, I julienne the other half. My fingers are never in danger of being cut but it seems pretty sharp so I replace it's guard when it is not in use. I plan to julienne zuchinni to use instead of pasta when I'm watching my carbs and potatoes for hash browns when I'm not.

4.0 out of 5 stars raw zucchini pasta December 20, 2012

I read about this peeler on a blog that was telling you how to make zucchini pasta without having to go out and buy one of those vegetable spiralizer contraptions. The zyliss julienne peeler did as she said. It slices up a zucchini into nice sized noodles. I've yet to try it on other vegetables but it worked perfectly for zucchini.

3.0 out of 5 stars Julienne cheater June 24, 2008

This product is good enough for home use or casual use. But, I find this product to be more work that is should be. I'm always cautious about using this one because, it's unpredictable. The edges are so sharp and it's kinda scary to slip and have it glide onto your hand. I bought another julienne peeler at my local "asian" marketplace made in japan and cost around 3 buck and kinda out preforms this one. The only catch is, is that, it make smaller julienne cuts that this one. The difference is that, the 3 dollar peeler has serrated blade which makes it more easier to glide to peel. Good enough but, take extreme care in using it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work for me May 15, 2013

Had high expectations after the good reviews, but this didn't julienne at all. I ended up with thick peels of potato zuchinni that were slightly scored - had to peel them apart by hand (even that didn't always work). Blade seemed a bit dull as well. It's possible that this was defective (length of the julienne blades a bit too short for the width of the slice), but I'm returning it for another brand.

5.0 out of 5 stars simple tool for impressive results March 4, 2013
By CK94
After searching fruitlessly for a spiralizer (so I can see how solid they feel), I picked up this little gadget from the Giant Eagle for $8.99. The first time I used it, I was not impressed - the zucchini got too thin and started to break in half, and I ended up nicking the hand holding the vegetable in the air. Then I read in an Amazon review to hold the vegetable down flat on the cutting board, and that worked a lot better. For the firmer carrot, I found it a bit tiring to pull while pushing down, so I spread open the prongs a little to slip the blade out and turned it around. Now I hold the carrot or yellow squash or zucchini down with my left hand, pointing away from my body on a cutting board, and I push the blade along the vegetable away from me. It allows me to use almost the whole length of the vegetable for longer strips. Safe fingers and beautiful thin julianne strips. The top of the blade has the serrations and while you peel with the bottom blade, the vegetable hits the top blade first to get the grooves cut. Can't beat the clean up - just rinse off or pop in the dishwasher, then store in a drawer, and a whole lot less fussy and cheaper than those spiralizer machines.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE my Zyliss!! March 11, 2013

I bought the Zyliss on a recommendation from an acquaintance...and I am so glad I did. If you love to julienne vegetables either for stir fry, salads, sushi, vegetable pasta...this little tool will make that so easy for you. No more 30 minutes to julienne all the veggies for dinner....3 zucchinis and 3 large carrots took 5 minutes!!! This is the one peeler/shredder that works!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works perfectly March 8, 2013

I wanted to try making "Pasta" from Zuchini and summer squash. I had one of these from Oxo and it was useless and the little blades bent and broke.
This works like a dream and we can carry on with our low carb/Caveman diet while still enjoying our favorite pasta sauces.
