5.0 out of 5 stars Peachy!
I certainly agree with the reviewer who said this peeler performed awesomely on peaches. (It also works nicely on nectarines and other soft fruit.) It also comes with a hard plastic blade guard that protects the blade when it's tossed in a drawer. 2.0 out of 5 stars Not effective
This peeler certainly did not perform up to expectations. I had several pounds of ripe peaches to peel and this peeler just got stuck in the flesh and did not peel nicely. The teeth dug in to the soft flesh and tore out huge hunks. What a waste of nice organic fruit. I attempted to peel two different peaches, then gave up and went back to a simple paring knife.

It also comes with a hard plastic blade guard that protects the blade when it's tossed in a drawer. 5/11/06: This peeler also does a fine job on ripe tomatoes (for those who do not wish to peel using the traditional scalding method).

11/04/06: I have purchased several for 'stocking stuffers'. You might consider doing the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent new peeler, September 30, 2005
This review is from: Zyliss Soft Skin Peeler (Kitchen)
Like another reviewer, I bought this somewhat on a lark, but we were granted an abundance of tomatoes and super-ripe peaches this summer and I was curious. The serrated blade really makes all the difference! Now that apples are in season here in Massachusetts, it's doing a great job on them, too - defintely better than my traditional paring knife (and I'm pretty good with the knife, but this takes off noticeably less fruit along with the peel.)

One word of caution: use this tool with care and respect, because that serrated blade is SHARP!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the handiest little gadgets I've ever had! And it really works!, August 22, 2007
I confess that I usually won't deal with the annoying and time-consuming dipping-into-boiling-water method for peeling tomatoes. I usually either ignore this instruction, chop the tomatoes, and throw them into the recipe without peeling or I choose a different recipe. Ditto for peeling soft fruit, like peaches, kiwis, and nectarines, for which, in desperation, I sometimes pretend the colorful skin is part of the "look" of the recipe, even though it might be fuzzy.

With this Zyliss peeler, however, I have some new options. Peeling even the ripest, fresh tomato or softest fruit is as easy as peeling a potato, though you make long, slow strokes with the peeler (or use a sawing motion as you peel), instead of making quick, short strokes. The process is quick and easy, and cleanup is a breeze.

It is important, if you decide to get this peeler, to save the guard that comes with it. The blades are extremely sharp! The guard (at least the one on my peeler) does not snap on closely, but a rubber band easily holds it in place so that the peeler can be tossed into the utensil drawer with other peelers, presses, and slicers. A great little gadget, which I will buy in bulk to give as hostess presents and stocking stuffers. It really works!

Note: Several vendors carry this Zyliss peeler on Amazon, and each has his/her own (unlinked) product page. As the vendors have different prices, which vary up to two dollars, a customer will want to check for price before buying. Mary Whipple

5.0 out of 5 stars No other peeler compares!, February 21, 2007
This review is from: Zyliss Soft Skin Peeler (Kitchen)
This peeler is a family favorite. Nothing skims the skin of a tomato or persimmon or any other fruit like this one does. I loved my peeler so much that I bought enough for my 4 sisters and recently bought 4 more to give as gifts. You do have to be careful with it as the blade is very sharp.

To my surprise, this peeler works fantastically on ripe tomatoes! Have given one to everyone in the family. Initially, only one member of the family greatly preferred tomatoes peeled; now everyone does! It's actually easier to peel than to slice unpeeled tomatoes. It takes off only a thin section of skin. Recommend very highly.

If you like your tomatoes skinless this peeler is just the tool you need! The serrated blade does an excellent job on my homegrown ripe juicy tomatoes. You won't be disappointed.

Works like a charm. I bought it on a lark just to see if it actually worked.
Now I'm buying them for everyone in the family who makes fresh fruit pies
or peels tomatoes.

I used old fashioned way to peel bell pepers:burning the skins and cleaning mess after, so I gave up peeling them completely. With Zyliss we enjoy peeeled peppers again. It saves so much time as well but it's not so good for tomato or plums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kitchen Essential, June 27, 2006

This review is from: Zyliss Soft Skin Peeler (Kitchen)
The Zyliss Soft Skin Peeler is definitely an essential tool for the kitchen. I have used it to peel tomatoes, pears, mangoes, and ginger with excellent results. The swivel head makes it easy to follow the shape of the item, even the ginger, the sharp serrated teeth on the blade easily grips the skin, and the tip does a great job of removing bad spots from produce. I recently peeled really soft mangoes with it, expecting that it would be a mess, but the peeler took away the skin with no problem, and the mangoes were left intact. It's refreshing to have tools that aid in food preparation and that deliver consistent results. Anyone that uses soft skinned produce will appreciate this peeler. The impeccable performance and the easy grip handle make the process of peeling soft skinned fruits and vegetables much easier.
