5.0 out of 5 stars Pizza fun from Ideo
This pizza wheel comes via Ideo's design studio as a new line of kitchen stuff from Zyliss that I've been seeing Alton Brown using every now and then.

2.0 out of 5 stars It's Okay.
I honestly don't know what all the fuss is about with this product. I'm a total kitchen gadget junkie and so I was delighted when I received this for Christmas. Yes, it's more ergonomic to hold and it's a little easier for me to slice up small bits of pizza for my toddler, but it's not *all that*. The problem is the thing is so irritating to wash that I find myself just...

This review is from: Zyliss Pizza Wheel (Kitchen)
This pizza wheel comes via Ideo's design studio as a new line of kitchen stuff from Zyliss that I've been seeing Alton Brown using every now and then.

The idea is simple...put the blade under your hand, where you are pushing down, rather than the standard pizza cutter lever device. The result (while contrary to the seemingly immutable laws of physics) is you don't have to push down very much at all. It boils down to it is more natural to push down in this manner than to grip and use a standard pizza cutter.

The wheely blade itself is larger than my past pizza cutter (from Park Bike Tools) -- so it feels happier rolling while cutting through the bowl-of-cheese they call a pizza here in Chicago.

The wheel snaps apart in about 1 second, fully exposing the interior, so you can scrub away, or just set it in your diswasher resting on a rail -- that does the job almost as well.

Great product...great fun to use.

I bought this pizza wheel after having read about the design of it (and the other new Zyliss kitchen items) on IDEO's website. Last night I used it, and it was amazing: super fast and easy to cut, without requiring a ton of hand pressure.

The design places all of your hand pressure onto the blade, instead of at the end of a handle, like every other pizza wheel out there. The handle is big, so one's hand can grip it easily.

If you like pizza, you'll love this pizza wheel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy on the hands, September 10, 2005

This pizza cutter is very ergonomic - I am able to use very little force to cut through pizza, etc. compared to "traditional" pizza cutters. I also use it to cut up my toddler's food right on the plate. Also, very easy to clean. It comes apart very easily, and you can scrub the entire blade, or just throw it it the dishwasher. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Flawed, but good, June 8, 2005

I bought this cutter ages ago to replace the standard handled pizza cutter I'd had, and wasn't pleased with. At first blush, this thing is perfect. And really, it's very good. Feels much more natural, and is much easier to cut with than the old fashioned standard handled cutter.

The drawback (and this really is small, but something one should know) is getting the thing clean. The plastic casing, the handle, is supposed to swing open so you can clean it. But man alive, the thing is HARD TO OPEN. Given that there's a big honkin' blade sticking out of it (and I have a slight blade phobia), it's difficult to get a really good grip, and the plastic is so stiff it's hard to get open. Doable, but difficult.

All in all, I recommend it over a standard pizza cutter hands down. If I could give 4 3/4 stars, I would.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner, December 26, 2005
This review is from: Zyliss Pizza Wheel (Kitchen)
I love it. I hated pizza cutters because I had only used the ones with handles, and none of them had serious blades like this one. Now I let my chef's knife rest again, since this little wonder cuts pizzas very cleanly.
DO leave a pizza to "set" for a couple minutes after you bring it out of the oven, otherwise you will see sticking no matter what you use. In the third minute, my choice for a clean cut is the zyliss pizza wheel. Your weight is on the hub and not offset by a handle, and the blade is seriously solid. Opening it for cleaning did seem strange at first, but the second time I did it, I was used to it and actually preferred this way to digging out bits from handles and handle fenders.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ergonomics Strikes Again, July 31, 2005
This review is from: Zyliss Pizza Wheel (Kitchen)
I purchased this pizza wheel for my mother because of her loving pizza and having arthritis in her hands around her thumb and the inability to use a conventional pizza cutter to put enough pressure on the shaft to cut pizza. I can truly say I am very pleased about the results of this wheel. She has no problem cutting through even the thickest hand tossed doughs anymore, and the clean up is a breeze with the wheel's ability to come out of the casing. Good job, Zyliss... now if I can only get my mother to stop eating so MUCH pizza....

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful gizmo, but..., June 17, 2005

I use this thing all the time, for stuffed pizzas, frozen pizzas, you name it. Clean up is a snap (literally) but there's just one problem.

The plastic doesn't age well.

After about 18 months of use, the plastic around the pivot point on the case has developed some cracks and is quite a bit looser than when it was brand new.

That's my only complaint about it, and maybe I just got a bad one. At any rate, for 18+ months of rock-steady use, $10 is not a bad investment, so I still have no problem giving this item 5 stars.

Amazon sent me an email inviting me to say something. I saw this item on Alton Brown's shows, and since I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome rather severely, I searched for it on trusty Amazon. I had to wait a while, it was out of stock. When it came, it WAS extremely packaged, something I would expect of a truly sharp, heavy-duty kitchen blade. Once I read the directions about taking it apart, no problem. As far as the reviewer with the "label problem", (probably a guy), most adults know you have to peeeel backwards on labels, and you use the label itself to grab any "bits" that are left on. Denatured alcohol or fingernail polish remover are last-ditch, but if you can't get a label off, maybe you shouldn't be using anything sharp anyway....
As far as operation, it works great (grasping is painful with CTS) and leaning on it is very easy. It comes apart easily for cleaning and is no problem to re-assemble. It has no "little corners" that hold food bits, you can get it squeaky-clean. It has a heavy-sharp blade, so as long as you don't squeeze it, getting cut should be no problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Cutter, January 31, 2006

The quality in construction and ease of cleaning make this a most used item in the kitchen. I use it to cut pizza and various other doughs for baking. After seeing it, everyone in the family wants one.
