5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite salad spinner
This is my favorite salad spinner, and I've tried several over the last couple years. It dries my lettuce very well, and has some useful features that I haven't seen in other spinners.

Like the old Zyliss spinner, you pull on a handle to spin the basket. But with this one the more you pull, the faster it spins, kind of like revving up a top or something...

2.0 out of 5 stars Zyliss Large Salad Spinner
While this salad spinner has a fairly large capacity and is relatively easy to operate, I feel it does not spin the lettuce as dry as the one I previously owned. (It broke and I can't find the same one.) As a result, I need to spin the lettuce several times and there's still water clinging to the leaves. Because of this my salad dressing is sometimes watered down...

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite salad spinner, January 14, 2005
This review is from: Zyliss Easy Spin Salad Spinner 4-6 Servings, White (Kitchen)
This is my favorite salad spinner, and I've tried several over the last couple years. It dries my lettuce very well, and has some useful features that I haven't seen in other spinners.

Like the old Zyliss spinner, you pull on a handle to spin the basket. But with this one the more you pull, the faster it spins, kind of like revving up a top or something. It spins much faster than those 'crank' spinners or the 'push down' type -and faster spinning means more water off your veggies.

As for the new features, here are my top five:

1) The lid is clear, so you can see the veggies spinning around in there and make sure you're not overfilling the spinner, the lettuce isnt bunching up in one corner, etc. OK, it's also just mesmerizing to watch your food spin round and round. Kind of like watching your clothes roll around in the dryer.

2) There is a brake! So after you've whipped your veggies into a frenzy, you can slam them to a stop -which also helps get more water off. This works better on the small sized spinner, since there is less weight to stop, but even on the big spinner it works very well. I have seen a brake on another spinner, but this one works much better.

3) The cord pulls itself back in -and gently: I disliked how the old 'string' spinners would yank on your arm, and if you didn't respond just right the string wouldn't pull in at all: it ends up just sitting there in a pile. You'd have to take the lid off and wind it up yourself! This new design winds the cord up every time.

4) The basket is smooth on the inside -that's something I defintely have not seen before. It's a subtle feature, but very helpful: it helps make sure little bits of your lettuce dont get stuck in the basket when you're cleaning it out.

5) You can stack things on top of it, both in the fridge and in the cupboard, because the top is mostly flat. The handle even sits in its own little pocket in the lid so that it's not in the way. In my house fridge space is valuable and I appreciate being able to stack this spinner like I do with my tupperware.

So, overall I am impressed with this spinner (so impressed that I've also given it as a gift!). It does its job very well and has thoughtful extra features which make it more helpful around the kitchen.

While this salad spinner has a fairly large capacity and is relatively easy to operate, I feel it does not spin the lettuce as dry as the one I previously owned. (It broke and I can't find the same one.) As a result, I need to spin the lettuce several times and there's still water clinging to the leaves. Because of this my salad dressing is sometimes watered down (which I really dislike). I'm disappointed in this item and I'm considering ordering another salad spinner from another manufacturer. This item is definitely over-priced and does not perform the way I'd expect a Zyliss product to perform.

2.0 out of 5 stars Easy to spin, but disappointing results, February 13, 2005

I was at first very excited with my new Zyliss salad spinner - it looks great, and it's much easier to spin than the older string-pull version (not to mention the old-school "pump" versions, which required a lot of effort). However, as another reviewer mentions, it simply does not get your greens very dry. I've been surprised and disappointed by the amount of water left on lettuce after spinning, and spinning, and spinning.

2.0 out of 5 stars Preferred the earlier Zyliss model, August 30, 2007
This review is from: Zyliss Easy Spin Salad Spinner 4-6 Servings, White (Kitchen)
I purchased this salad spinner because I had used a Zyliss at a friend's house, and was really impressed with how well it worked: it spun super-fast, and got the lettuce really dry. I was very disappointed, however, to find that this newer model--which features some nice improvements, like a non-skid base and a nearly flat top for stacking--doesn't seem to perform as well as the older ones do. Like other reviewers, I felt it didn't dry the lettuce as thoroughly, and doesn't seem to spin as fast as my friend's model. The worst aspect of the new design, however, is that the lid tends to fly off when you pull on the cord! The lip doesn't seem deep enough to hold it in place. The design of the earlier models encouraged you to pull out, not up, but even doing so, the lid on the newer example is prone to coming off. These problems were vexing enough that I traded mine in for a older model Zyliss that I found on eBay. I am much happier with that, although I find it is awfully large to store. The perfect salad spinner for me doesn't seem to be out there yet!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love It, February 25, 2006
This review is from: Zyliss Easy Spin Salad Spinner 4-6 Servings, White (Kitchen)
This spinner gets out more water than the previous Zyliss one I had. The lettuce also lasts much longer before getting brown. I only use Romaine heads, I don't buy precut bags, and in the previous spinner the lettuce would brown in two-three days. The best lettuce is when you chop it and spin it and put in the fridge for an hour or more before using. If you eat it right away it seems soft and soggy, just like the other spinner. And the lettuce knife is worthless, smashes the leafs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good performance and easy storage!, August 10, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Zyliss Easy Spin Salad Spinner 4-6 Servings, White (Kitchen)
This Zyliss salad spinner works well and stores easily. I am very happy with it. It is easy to spin and the lettuce gets quite dry, making leftovers last for a few days. The bowl of the spinner makes a nice serving bowl and the entire thing stores well both in the refrigerator with leftovers and in my cabinet. The OXO spinner has the spinning pump on top that makes it a pain to store in my lazy susan cabinet and is too tall to slip into my fridge without taking the top off and wasting a piece of plastic wrap. I've had my spinner for a couple of years now and just bought one as a gift. It's definitely worth the money over any other spinner I have found.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, high-quality, effective, February 14, 2009

This works so well that my mother asked for one after seeing how well ours worked. The only downside is that it's a bit tricky to clean the top. Otherwise it's excellent. We use ours for everything from lettuce to mushrooms.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lid is impossible to clean / dry, April 11, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Zyliss Easy Spin Salad Spinner 4-6 Servings, White (Kitchen)
My only complaint with this product is that you cannot clean between the two pieces of plastic that make of the lid. You can run hot water in there, but then it's impossible to dry. If they just let you separate the two pieces, that would solve the problem. Unfortunately, they did not. Food prep tools shouldn't be difficult to clean, especially with the lettuce / spinach bacteria scares that come up in the news every couple of years. Otherwise, this product works quite well and has held up for over 4 years so far.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lid hard to clean, August 25, 2011
This review is from: Zyliss Easy Spin Salad Spinner 4-6 Servings, White (Kitchen)
Pros: it does dry lettuce fairly well and it is large enough for all my salad/leafy veggie needs.

Cons: 1) Cleaning the lid. It is made of two pieces attached at the center, and when cleaning water easily gets trapped there (and other tiny bits of food, too, if you put it into the dishwasher). I have not found a way to separate the two (I don't think it's designed to) and I therefore have to drip dry it on its side, rotating once one half is done drying. That makes this salad spinner more work than it needs to be and has me calling in question its cleanliness. 2) Inner basket is a bit flimsy, but not enough that it doesn't do it's job so that's a minor complaint.

If it weren't for the double lid I'd give this spinner a higher rating. I'm actively looking for a better spinner with a one piece lid if anyone has suggestions!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Salad Spinner, January 9, 2010

This review is from: Zyliss Easy Spin Salad Spinner 4-6 Servings, White (Kitchen)
Last year my daughter gave me this spinner for Christmas. I have used it all year and both my daughters used is when they came to visit. This particular spinner was on both of their wants list this year and when I saw it on Amazon, I knew this was the best way to purchase it. This spinner is easy to use, easy to clean and performs well every time used. I recommend it highly.
