Customer Reviews

It's really easy to use and is nice and sharp.

You can take something like a very ripe mango or peach that is soft, and the peeler just removes the thinnest veneer of peel, and very little fruit.

In the processing of purchasing another one for my friend who loves to bake cobblers.

It does exactly what it is supposed to do, and does it very, very well. You can take something like a very ripe mango or peach that is soft, and the peeler just removes the thinnest veneer of peel, and very little fruit. This is one of the things I like best. No waste! I use it frequently, and would replace it ASAP if anything happened to it. If you eat a lot of fruit, this will be invaluable to you.

Dec. 8, 2010. Well, it actually happened. I did misplace this peeler a month or so ago. (It fell in some mysterious black hole in my little kitchen). I am requesting a new one for Christmas, and I can't wait to get that new one. Just today I was attempting to peel some kiwis with my old Oxo peeler, something that I know would be simple with my Zyliss Soft Skin. The Oxo just would not grab the skin, and it took three times longer than it would have with my Zyliss. I recently recommended this peeler to my Aunt and Uncle. Currently they are maintaining 2 homes, and my Aunt said she liked the first one she bought so much she had to get a second one for the other house. She said my Uncle was struggling to peel something recently and she told him to use the new peeler. He did, and he said, "this is so much better"! And this from a man in his seventies who has no doubt worked with a few peelers in his life. So, still highly recommended by me.

I saw a glowing special review on my Kindle Amazon Daily a couple of days ago for the Kuhn Rikon Piranha Peeler, so I added it to my Amazon Wish List. Then, I happened to notice the Zyliss peelers (both regular and soft skin on one card for just a couple dollars more than one alone -- $9.99 for the two) at my local grocery store. The lady doing demonstration recipes that day recommended them, and I couldn't remember the name of the one I saw on the Kindle, so I bought the Zyliss, figuring I would check when I got home. I found that Amazon carries both brands, and the reviews here for the Zyliss seemed just as good as for the Kuhn.

I used the Zyliss Soft Skin peeler this morning on an overripe peach, and it did just fine, shaving off just the skin, even in areas that were turning brown and very soft.

It appears to me that the Zyliss and Kuhn are almost identical, except for the shape of the handle; the Zyliss appears somewhat larger, and more nicely shaped, I think. The other difference I see is that the Zyliss has a stainless steel metal scoop on the end for removing eyes and other things, whereas the Kuhn seems to have only a plastic tip.

This thing will actually peel a bell pepper or a peach without tearing it up, its terrific! Roasted red peppers got a whole lot easier. I've had one for three years now, it gets a lot of use and is still like new.

I just purchased some expensive champagne mangoes from Whole Foods. Yesterday peeled one with a very sharp, brand new paring knife; today I remembered I had this Zyliss peeler in the back of the drawer. There was no comparison. Unlike the paring knife, the Zyliss made short work of peeling the mango and took almost no flesh with the peel. It couldn't have been faster or easier to use. It has a very sharp swiveling serrated edge that glides through fruit skin like butter, and a comfortable palm-friendly handle. Maybe your knife skills are better than mine, but if not, this is your ticket to an easy glide.

The Zyliss soft skin peeler has an ergonomic handle, which to be honest, may be a little large for some to use properly, but for those with medium, or large sized hands, it provides a grip where you can exercise pretty good control of the blade. What is really special about this peeler, is the serrated blade, which is extremely sharp. Because the blade digs into whatever is being cut or sliced, it is easier to more precisely control the path of the blade, and the type of cut you want to make. There are some peelers, where the blade slides over, or bounces off without cutting. That won't happen very much with this peeler, as the blade has plenty of bite. The more experience you have using it, the better your control will probably get. If you experiment, you can probably come up with some cool new cutting techniques, and create some interesting new shapes.

The serrated blade is sharp enough to easily slice off the skin of a tomato, other fruits or vegetables, or a piece of cheese. Just be very careful, anytime your thumb or fingers are near the blade, as the serrated edge can very easily do some nasty damage to flesh. Be sure to save the plastic blade guard that comes with the peeler. It will protect both the blade, and yourself.

There is also a cutting tip for digging out potato eyes, seeds, or other imperfections. Eligible for Amazon's 4 for 3 program, these babies make great gifts.

Unbelievably easy to peel fruit with this. You absolutely have to have this in the kitchen. Be careful not to cut yourself though; very sharp.

This product works very well. As a matter of fact the Zyliss products I have all work well for their intended uses. Stays sharp. Does not butcher the items being peeled.

This is the best peeler I have ever used. It works on everything perfectly, no struggling, no force, no effort. The blade is at an angle to the handle, which I find better than the straight ones. There are no words to describe how much better this one makes me feel compared to the standard grocery one I have. It is very sharp, which does make it a little hard to wash. That's the only negative.

Owned it 3 years and have had many friends/roommates comment on how amazing it is.
