This review is from: adidas miCoach Zone (Apparel)
I just received the Adidas Micoach "Zone" yesterday and wanted to write this initial review on my one-day impression.
So far, I am very impressed. I am a relative "newbie" when it comes to fitness (that is why I invested in the "Zone" rather than the "Pacer" device). I have a Fitbit pedometer device and this "Zone" device was suggested on the Fitbit.com community blog as a good compliment to the Fitbit. That recommendation was correct.
Set-up of the "Zone" was effortless. The display, amazingly simple. After registering with the Adidas.com/Micoach website, I selected the weight-loss program and received an explanation of my personalized "zones" based upon my own max heart rate (using my age). I then simply started walking my exercise route and saw the led light on my wrist receiver go from white to blue (the initial exercise zone). I speed up my pace and noticed the change to the green zone (increased aerobic activity) and noticed that at this pace, I could probably still hold a conversation, but was consciously working harder to maintain that pace. This motivated me to try a neighborhood hill to see what impact the incline would have on the reading.
Soon, I was walking and breathing harder (probably would not want to talk much at this level) and the light changed to yellow. As the hill got steeper and much more difficult for me (to a point where I normally would have just stopped and turned around) I slowly kept going until I saw the light turn red. I can't tell you how excited I was to know that I could even "reach" this level of heart rate. After about a minute in the red zone, I turned around and headed back. Not only did I walk much further than I normally do, I had some basic information about how my body reacts to certain heart rate zones.
I know this initial experiment may seem pretty basic to you more experienced runners/athletes, etc, but for me it was very enlightening. During my next workout, I will follow the "Zone" directions and press the top button on the wrist receiver to see what my average heart rate for each zone is and try to manually calculate my "actual" max heart rate using the readout on the wrist receiver.
I would highly recommend this HRM for anyone just getting started with a fitness program who does not need the pace and speed readings some more expensive systems offer. Hope this was helpful.

Very helpful tool for getting fit!, September 6, 2010
This review is from: adidas miCoach Zone (Apparel)
I use the miCoach Zone for running. I just started training for a 1/2 marathon. I went on the miCoach website and selected one of their plans, chose the date of the run, and BAM! - I had my own workout schedule. I began following the running schedule before I purchased the miCoach Zone bundle. I would attempt to jog slower for the Blue sections and faster for the green sections (part of the workout plan). The very first time I used the miCoach Zone (heart monitor), I realized that I had been pushing myself too much. Running at a slower (heart rate based) pace enabled me to run much farther without being fatigued. I had been running 2-3 miles. The first day I used the miCoach Zone, I ran 4.5 miles!
The bundle I received came with the wristband and the heart monitor (with chest strap). The chip in the wristband communicates wirelessly with the heart monitor, and it tells you your heart rate, time elapsed in your workout, and the calories you have burned. I don't listen to music when I run, so I chose the miCoach Zone over the miCoach Pacer (talking unit). With miCoach Zone, you don't need a computer to use it. However, you cannot upload your stats to the miCoach website (unless you do that manually). I wish this bundle came with a pedometer. My new Adidas sneakers have the slot where the Stride Pacer unit goes. I believe you get that unit with the miCoach Pacer bundle.
I love this device, and I would highly recommend it!

Excellent Product!, March 11, 2011
I have used this almost every day. You can go on [...] and start your workout plans to fit almost any fitness goal. The strap is comfortable and the wrist piece is easy to read and simple. It monitors your heartrate, calories burned, and also how long you have been in a particular zone. Just a word of caution, I received my unit not synched with each other. I thought it was defective. Not a big deal, just go online to Adidas website to see how to synch the monitor with the wrist piece. After that, it was perfect! Highly recommend.
