Why haven't these guys made it?, March 31, 2008
This review is from: alligator (Audio CD)
Ok so the internet explosion was supposed to be a digital Robin Hood. Take money from the over bloated bands, and bring smaller bands to a new medium plateau. Case in point, with contemporary music being harder to craft, we have The Guards of Metropolis: The magical crafting of song stretched out on a technical powerhouse delivery system.
Take a listen to: "Perfect World" and see if you can avoid humming it all next week. What GOM has that others lack is their rare combination of melody and snap. I have truly loved this bands demo's when I could get my hands on them.
This release includes a new direction that I wasn't aware of from the live act....Alligator is a swirly mist of a track that some may miss, because it's the last track. Also, "Postcards from heaven" is penned by the guitarist's old collaborator Aslak (From Merchants of Venus-Norway), showing new experimentation with other's crafting of songs for the band. If you are an adventurous music aficionado, you may need comparisons. Ok hard, but shall we say: early Garbage, Rammstein, Edwin Collins, Blondie...well if you give a chance to the tracks I mentioned..maybe you could do your own review?
Guards Of Metropolis is a great thing. Again I ask Why haven't these guys made it? The notio raises the question of what is making it anyway....
