Juan A. Rivero's best effort in compelling all the info available to date (1998) regarding the species of amphibians and reptiles of Puerto Rico is completely revised and expanded in a new bilingual (Spanish-English) second edition.

Illustrated in full color photographs (most taken by the author) Rivero describe with rich details each specimen using the least amount of scientific or technical terminology making it a must have for the amateur or everyone just trying to fulfill his/her curiosity. But for all the scientific community out there a complete bibliographical listing is included as additional further info sources.

A whole chapter was devoted to cover subjects as important as how to take care of a snake bite to tips and tactics in collecting specimens for shipping and/or scientific study while guaranteeing the stability of their ecosystem.

An audio CD with a sound recording from most of the frog species covered is enclosed as a bonus (and narrated by Rivero himself), opposed to the first edition (1978) were a 45 rpm vinyl album was sold separately.

Juan A. Rivero (Distinguished Professor at the University of Puerto Rico) pay homage to the world of herpetology just in time to celebrate the 20th anniversary release of the first edition of his masterpiece.
