5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent text for entertainment or enlightenment!, March 28, 2009
This book is old, yes, but the information it holds is of the sort that ages quite well. Man and nature haven't changed in 40 years, so the information is just as relevant today as when it was written. The author talks about not just survival but all stretches of human extreme, such as high altitute and even just how long a man can stay awake before he descends into madness, and how to handle them, with excellent examples of people who did both right and wrong in a vast variety of situations. This is a great read for soldiers, sailors, hunters, hikers, pilots, Search-and-Rescue personel, fishermen, and any such person. It is, however, just as entertaining as it is useful, so if you enjoy the TV programs such as "Survivorman", or "Man Vs. Wild", you should definitely pick up this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of the best in survivial books!, June 12, 2011
This review is from: The Art of Survival (Hardcover)
My father picked up this book out of the snow in circa 1980 and he gave it to me and I loved reading it. The stories are incredible especially the fact that it is so hard to survive at sea without fresh water and how seducing it is to be surrounded by water. Also, the arctic stories are fascinating especially compared to the jungle ones where it is much easier to survive. This is a common sense true guide to getting by under the worst of circumstances. A good read and very informative.
