5.0 out of 5 stars A wealth of information, November 7, 2006

This review is from: 'asia' (Paperback)
I believe that this amazon listing is for the first edition of David Gallant's excellent ASIA biography, in which case I will provide full disclosure by noting that I contributed an appendix to the book ("Asia Apocrypha," which discusses songs by other bands that have the closest ASIA ties in musicianship and style). Given that my contribution is but a tiny fraction of the book's content, I don't think it is unfair to review the main text of this book favorably. Dave Gallant is the webmaster of the band's official website, so there are few individuals who would be better equipped to discuss the history of ASIA over their multiple combinations. Since the heights of their debut album in 1982 through to the nineties' incarnation of the band (when Geoff Downes was the sole original member participating), "The Heat Goes On" provides a detailed an insightful view of the events that shaped this band over the years.
The second edition is in a larger format, with more photos and a nice family tree, but this first edition includes an invaluable listing of every live date performed by the band, as well as a complete discography, both of which were omitted from the second edition.
I am glad to have both versions of the book, but a more casual fan would be well served by either edition.
