I have an early 2006, when this model first came out, and the replacement battery fits nicely. The only advantage I have found for the $100 replacement vs the $20 replacement is that the less expensive replacement only last for an hour and a half to two hours as it has six rather than eight cells.

Shut your computer down then try taking the battery out of the computer for a minute or so. Then put it back in. If you still get that error notice, take it to the Apple Store and ask their help. I did use my computer for 6 months after it started showing the "replace battery" message. MIT worked fine.

On the bottom of your laptop there are two gray plastic tabs. You need to slide them at the same time and your battery should pop up for you to take out. You than place your new battery in the same way and push down. If you do not see this on the bottom of your laptop this battery might not be for your model Macbook Pro.

This battery is a great replacement for a MacBook Pro with a 15" display that was purchased in March 2008. Sorry, I don't know what generation it is. Maybe you can compare it with the purchase date of your computer.

Upon advice of local guru I purchased # IF161-105-1 battery from ifixit Make sure you get the five sided tool IF 145-070-3 that is needed to remove the old battery. My MacBook Pro was purchased in 2009 Loco guru Al Perry 304-345-8060. He may request fee for advice.
